Botanica are a South African producer with a cult following and their chenin blanc has gained the attention of the wine press world over. Tim Atkin describes it as ‘focused, pithy, taut and intense’ and we couldn’t agree more. This is next-level chenin blanc that is grown and made with immaculate attention to detail. Half of it was matured in 400L barrels, with the rest sitting in stainless steel, for nine months. This lees contact gives a gorgeous richness to the wine which is balanced by bright, zesty acidity, green apple and pears, and compelling minerality. The winemaker is Virginia ‘Ginny’ Povall, an American-born, South African resident winemaker and protea farmer. Proteas are a much more profitable crop, but she can’t resist the draw of the grape.

Willunga 100 have a passion for grenache and in the hands of winemaker Skye Salter (up-and-comer to watch and legendary woman of wine) they have crafted some magic with this one. Blewitt Spring is THE region for grenache and this wine shows the elegance of not only the site, but also the long and cool 2017 vintage. Look out for strawberries, raspberries and cinnamon with a medium body and fine tannins to finish. Superb!

Paxton is the premier biodynamic producer in the Vale hands down. This single site shiraz of theirs is for lovers of old-school, traditional, no-nonsense, well-made wines. It's seen plenty of oak and is bursting with luscious fruit. This is a new release, so hasn't done the rounds with the critics yet, but previous vintages have all scored extremely well. The winemaking duo behind this wine is Kate Goodman and Ashleigh Seymour. Kate is one busy (and impressive) lady!

The flavour of this 'wild' wine is a typical Coonawarra shiraz, with dense blueberries and blackberries, chocolate and rhubarb, with just a breath of eucalypt. But it’s also much more fun than your bog-standard wine. The tannins are almost powdery and very approachable. The palate is framed by fine spices and the whole package is deliciously enjoyable. Kate Goodman's considered one of Australia’s best winemakers, and was snaffled up a few years back by Penley in what can only be described as a major coup for the winery. She’s aiming for “life and lightness” in her wine, respecting the quality of the fruit. Bring it on.

Pertaringa have crafted Hills cabernet at its best with this one. There are all the hallmarks of the variety - structure, herbaceousness and cassis. It has full aromas of black olives, plums, creamy chocolate, spice, and lifted floral notes. The palate is textured and balanced, elegant with fine acidity and chalky tannins. Bec Hardy, the first female vigneron in six generations from one of South Australia's oldest wine families, the Hardys, is the crafter of this wonderful wine.

The region most famous for riesling in Australia, ah yes, classic Clare Valley! Kirrihill, a winery brought about by two Clare Valley locals who wanted to showcase how fabulous the wines from these vineyards and terroir can be, and this is a classic example. If you love a zesty, aromatic riesling then this is the one for you. Fresh, fragrant aromas of that classic citrus and lemongrass which leaves a dry acidity. Yum! Susan “Susie” Mickan is the chief winemaker at Kirrihill, appointed in 2018 with a WHOPPER 32 vintages under her belt. What a powerhouse!!!
