Why do we love this case?

The leaves are falling, and we’re putting on a couple of extra layers in the morning. As the temperature drops, so does our desire for drinking anything with a chill on it. We’ve curated the drops that we know bring the cheer when it’s grey outside. The ones that warm our souls and encourage us to get something into the slow cooker. Whatever you pair them with, we recommend sliding into that pair of Ugg boots you’ve had in the back of the cupboard all year. Then you’re in business.

Every case contains ONE of each of the following:

School House is a favourite of ours here at the ‘fo, and you’ll understand why when you crack open a bottle. This vineyard is their most premium, located in near Penola, and is a site rich in history to the community and grows outstanding wine. The wine is rich, ripe and unctuous, with loads of black currants, vanilla, subtle bayleaf and cedar notes linger through. Lay this one down for a few extra years mofo, it won’t hurt.

Mitolo is a dead-set McLaren mofo fave - a customer fave and a staff fave. They are famous for bold, firm and concentrated reds that are truely some of the best in the region. The Cantiniere 2018 shiraz starts with blueberries and plums on the nose, followed by a pretty perfume. The palate is all McLaren with dense red and black fruit, richness and abundant tannin. It’s as intense, as complex, as high quality, as powerful as you are going to find, with all of that fruit supported by roasted nuts and spices, and super dark chocolate. The mouthfeel is indeed bold, but not overwhelming, as tannin dances with fruit, acidity, earthy notes and a long and moreish finish.

Wrattonbully brings the goods when it comes to cabernet. It’s that red clay and loam soil that’s the key. We’ve got our hands on this single vineyard example that’s been given heaps of love by Carillon. Despite its medium body, it’s quite ripe with flavours of cassis and blackberry. Low cropping levels and small berries have led to great concentration and some time in French oak has given the wine a nice spicy backbone and fine tannins.

Yelland & Papps have crafted a fantastic single vineyard Barossa shiraz made from old vines on the western ridge of the valley. There’s opulence, fruit weight, fine tannins and a long finish on this one. Wild yeast has been utilised before nearly two years in a mix of new and seasoned French and American oak. Plum, mulberry and clove jump out of the glass upon first whiff. The palate expands even further with vanilla, licorice, dark chocolate and graphite. Smoothness, complexity and depth all wrapped up in a velvety package. This is really, really good stuff.

Mofo Fave

What do you get when you blend big bold Barossa shiraz with big bold Barossa primitivo? Surprise, surprise! You get a big bold Barossa blend. And a rich red like this needs some time in barrel. How about 18 months in a combination of French and American oak? That cedary backbone lifts up the dark berry fruit, plum and spice of the wine. So if you’re into all that the Barossa can pack into a bottle, then this is your jam.

Delicate

Château La Borie, one of the few domaines in Côtes-du-Rhône bearing the Château name, was built in the 17th century. Since then, it has passed through several families before coming under the care of the Knapp family today. A delightful blend of grenache and syrah, this has all the prowess of the classic Rhône blend- rich stewed blackberries and black plums, notes of game and some subtle spice are in full swing. There’s a lot of wine from this area that appears a bit rough and unpolished, but this is certainly not one of them. Driven. Focused. A bottle of this on hand is one step closer to a happy evening.
