Chardonnay 2017
Adelaide Hills, SA
5 Star Halliday Rated Winery | Single Vineyard
This is excellent drinking - tropical on the nose with white peach and guava providing a captivating aroma. Rather than being saturated, it’s all rather gentle and pretty with grapefruit adding some zest. Fruit flows over the plate which is gently assertive. It is persistent with good length and a driving acid keeping things fresh.
YOU’D PAY $25 full price.

This wine is made by the legendary Sergio Carlei from the famous Cambrian soils of Heathcote. The region is famed for it's medium-bodied, peppery and powerful shiraz. At three-years-old, this wine is looking the goods with a nose full of plums, spice and mocha aromas, and followed by classic Heathcote pepper on the palate. What a delight!

There's something about the maritime climate of South Australia's Currency Creek that makes magical shiraz. This wine from a boutique producer Beklyn is a great example of the style - it's broad with spice, tannin and a dense core of fruit that unwinds after an hour in a decanter. If you love full-bodied South Aussie shiraz, you’ll adore this wine, which is full of plums and raspberries, alongside black pepper and soft spice. Inviting aromatics of dusty cacao and black forest linger well after the final sip.

We'll let Mr James Halliday tell you all about this one in his 95 point review: "Destemmed to open fermenters with 15-20% whole bunches, pneumatic plunging throughout fermentation, one puncheon (500l) run off at 4 degrees baume, the remainder to used oak. Highly fragrant; medium-bodied, supple and juicy. The oak handling has created a cedary/spicy note, and the tannins are 100% integrated".

Certified organic, single vineyard and vegan-friendly. It doesn't get much better than this class and earth-conscious sauv blanc from Marlborough. It is beautifully textured, with pineapple, tropical fruit and a sweet basil note, followed by ripe peach on the back palate. A chalky minerality and complexity complements the fruit.

Palliser Estate are one of Martinborough's leading producers, recognised for their excellence around the world. This wine is from their Pencarrow range - wines crafted with drinkability in mind, all seriously drinkable! The wine has been made with freshness as the driving force, and is fruit-forward and vibrant with a nose of cherry, plum and rose petal. It spent nearly a year in 25% new oak - so there’s a bit of vanilla and spice, nestled in a medium-body, with just the right amount of tannin.

Jeanneret have made a superb young riesling, from a couple of lofty vineyards in Clare. Not a steely citrus taste bud assault, more approachable and friendly. Watch out for grapefruit pith, meyer lemon flesh and white peach, with fresh chopped herbs. It’s fine and clean, with just enough sweetness to do its job with style.

This is our best quaffing Coonawarra cab. So approachable and, unlike many a cabernet, ready to be enjoyed in its youth. Medium bodied yet dark in colour and plush berries over the palate, you can expect all the hallmarks and uniqueness that put Coonawarra on the map. Smooth texture and well integrated tannin work well alongside generous dashes of soft spice and a finish that’ll have you grabbing the bottle and investigating all the specs for yourself. Your wine journey isn’t complete without sampling all the Penley Estate has to offer and we feel this little gem is the best place to start. Bon voyage!

If there is one thing us Victorians do well, it’s bubbles. We love it so much we don’t even need an occasion to drink it… Decided to not go to the gym? Pop the bubbles! Your mother-in-law came over unannounced? Pop the bubbles! You forgot to pay a bill? Pop the bubbles! Seriously though, whatever occasion you are celebrating, be sure to have some of this chilled in the fridge. With delightful green apples, pear and honeydew melon that dance on the palate, effervescent bubbles that tickle the tongue, and a fragrant nose of florals and pears, you’ll be celebrating the moment it hits your glass. And your mother-in-laws too!

We’d fly solo to get to this rosé! In fact we would also swim, jump, run and scoot there too. Joining us all the way from Pays d’Oc in France, this crisp drop is the perfect addition to go in the esky at your next picnic. Jam packed with all the lively summer fruits and aromas of strawberries and cream, this baby will go excellently as an aperitif, or with appetisers and snacks. Make sure you chill before you open ‘cause it won’t stay in the fridge long once you’ve had your first glass!

This blend of grenache, shiraz and mataro shows us what McLaren Vale is capable of producing, and certainly what Thistledown is capable of producing! This is a ripe and juicy red, with a generous medium body. The nose is full of red berries, plums and a bit of spice, followed by a firm palate of more berries and a long herbaceous finish. It really is Unforgettable!

What do you get when you add a splash of tempranillo to Frankland River shiraz? A bloody good wine, that's what! This one has oodles of berries, fine tannins and a slick medium-bodied palate. Spain's superstar red grape, tempranillo adds some rustic savouriness that you just don’t get in other shiraz from the region. This is a style we'd like to see more of!
