Why do we love this case?

If you want to get ahead in life, self-care should be a priority. In a world full of deadlines and deadsh*ts and bosses and tossers, we all need to take some time to treat ourselves. My recommendation? Do as the Europeans do. And yes, that may mean walking around in little swimming trunks, but the ultimate treat is indulging in their quality wine. This pack of super premium Euro vinos includes four wines that are drenched in points and worth over $100 each.

Each case contains one bottle of each of the following:

Red
Tempranillo
Rioja

San Vicente Rioja Tempranillo 2013

Raspberry

Guía Proensa
Guia Gourmets
Guía Peñín

This Spanish import is as close to perfection as it comes, at least in the eyes of Spain’s Guía Proensa wine guide. They gave it 99 points – si, correcto, 99 – thanks to its initial aromas of raspberries and blackberries moving into vanilla, dark chocolate, mint, coffee and cinnamon. If you’re a fan of Flamenco flavours and a sucker for Spanish style, this tempranillo is absolutely unmissable.

Gary Walsh
Import

“Gary Walsh has given it 95 points and he’s also said that this is one of his top 10 producers out of Piedmont. This is the sort of wine you bring out on a special occasion. It’s a Christmas wine, it’s a food wine, it’s a wine to impress your friends and it’s a wine to give as a gift. Tar and roses. Two really interesting things that you may not expect out of a wine but what you get is the prettiness and the femininity and the floral notes of the roses, but also that firmness of the tar. It has beautiful acidity, a bit liquoricey and a bit redcurranty, there’s even some Earl Grey tea going on if I am to be so wine-wankery. It will age forever and keep rewarding those that can wait that long.” - Grant, Mofo Wine Broker

Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate

Pedro Ballesteros Torres, Master of Wine, called this “a top quality Rioja with real charisma” thanks to its impressive power and an explosion of flavour. Sarah Evans, Master of Wine, raved about “a wine that is full of life and energy” with “a glassful of dark fruits; blackberries and sour cherries coating the mouth.” This is, as Pierre Mansour put it, a smoky, full-bodied Rioja that has notable structure. Berry fruits and super jammy aromas are accompanied by wood nuances like cedar to add complexity. Sarah Evans described as “dense and resonant” and complimented the length as being “hugely impressive, taking you right through onto a lift of freshness at the end.”

There is definitely a wine you’ll want to pick up and put away. Big points and even bigger returns for those who have the patience to keep their hands off this ‘14 Bordeaux. It scored 97 points from Andrew Jefford, 95 from Decanter and 95 from Jane Anson, but it still has a few years left till it really hits its straps. Dense and rich with dark fruits and spice, there are notes of liquorice, dark chocolate and coffee and, as Decanter say, “it’s going to take some time but there is a lot of promising substance in this wine.”

Luca Maroni

If Tuscan reds are up your alley, this ‘14 is about to throw down a strike. According to Luca Maroni, it’s a cab sav that belongs with “the elite of the Supertuscans.” With 99 points and a Gold Medal, he goes on to say it “proves what can be achieved by a passionate winemaker when he carefully proceeds with the right know-how.” It’s dark. A deep black colour with blackcurrant, blackberry and elderberry on the nose, there are also notes of espresso, toast and black pepper. There’s an intense fruitiness, super ripe tannins and subtle flavours of vanilla, licorice and cocoa that make this one of the very best cabernets in Italy.

- Fine Wine Review

Luc Camus, who brings the son vibes to the father-son team of Camus-Bruchon, has a little saying: “C’est la motivation qui fait tout.” Essentially, “it’s motivation that does everything”, which is pretty apt for a hardworking fella like Luc. Their village has been hit by some serious hail in recent years, but that doesn’t mean we’re going to stop hailing them as one of the best Burgundy producers getting around. This velvety, ‘14 pinot noir is juiced from vines planted back in 1929. Packed with cherry, plum and a lil’ hint of strawberries, it’s a 91 point vino that’s all about opulence – and now it’s at the ‘Fo. It was the last wine we tasted on Friday and golly was it worth the wait, a ruby red reward for gettin’ through copious amounts of white. Not that I’m complaining. Once you have a sip you’ll be just as motivated as Luc, only you’ll be drinking it, not growing it. Win-win, right?
