Why do we love this case?

Summer’s finally here, Christmas is over until the retailers (oops that’s us) start advertising again in June, and the warehouse if full of stunners for summer. So Mofo Buyer John’s penned down what he’d be drinking, and asked the warehouse to pop them all into a case for you. The more you buy, the longer summer will last. Promise.

Each case contains one bottle of each of the following:

White
Chardonnay
Adelaide Hills

Golding Wines Block 2 Adelaide Hills Chardonnay 2013
Green Apple
Nectarine
Nutty
Medium-bodied
Bright
Concentrated
Wine Showcase
Wine Showcase
James Halliday

This ‘13 chardy is rich, round, robust and ready to drink. When I asked John, from the Mofo Wine Team, about it he kinda got stuck on repeat: “At its prime. Ready to drink. Aged to perfection. Don’t cellar it. Drink it now. Drink it.” Mate, we get it. John’s right though. This is ready to go and full of honey, melon and toasty oak characteristics. There’s a richness that isn’t often found in Aussie chardonnay, and it picked up 94 points and a gold medal from Wine Showcase, and 90 points from James Halliday. It’s a chardy for chardonnay lovers, so if that’s you, prepare your palate.

“This one’s from Sicily, and it was lucky enough to pick up top gold at the San Francisco Wine Show. Pears, apples, lovely citrus notes, beautiful acidity. It’s not one to age, it’s one to drink now. We’ve got the last of this vintage, the 2016. They’ve picked the ‘17, next order will be the ‘17. This is great for spring, great for summer. Buy it, drink it, buy some more.” - John, Mofo Wine Buyer

From the lush Mount Benson, an oft-underrated part of the beautiful Limestone Coast, this vino is subtly spicy, exuberantly juicy and profusely good value. Adjectives, hey. It’s also picked up a whole heap of praise on its journey, with 97 points, a trophy and a gold medal from the Limestone Coast wine Show and two gold medals at the Melbourne International Wine Competition. Dark berries and cherries rule the fruit world with notes of olive and pepper. It’s dinner-ready vino, the perfect pour for your favourite roast or, if meat isn’t your thing, a big ol’ hunk of bread and cheese.

Originally from northeast Italy, prosecco has made a happy home here in the King Valley. Which is good for us, because we order it by the case to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, Fridays, Saturdays...lunch times. On a hot summer’s day, nobody can put this baby in the corner. Crisp, clean and dry, it has beautiful acidity and drive. I asked John, from the Mofo Wine Team, about the new vintage and he just said “Drink, drink, drink, drink, drink.” ‘Nuff said. You’re looking at notes of pears, apples and citrus – your new best friend this summer.

Did someone say single vineyard pinot? Hell yeah, we did. 100% sourced from Santarossa’s Langbrook Vineyard, The Don will smack you in the face with aromas of intense raspberry, dark cherry and black spice before bringing you under his wing with a long, slinky palate. Super complex (is he a hero? Is he a villain?) with fine tannins, The Don is going to stick around the hood for the next 8-12 years. This boss is not here to mess around, mofos.

“What’s on the nose?” Betty asked, sticking her shnoz into her plastic cup. Lorraine took a whiff: “Lemons, Betty, limes too. But it’s this tight little palate you need to get around. Zesty and fresh, dry and crisp, it’s made by a 5 red star producer! And that James Halliday is a tight little number himself.” Betty smiled. “That’ll do Lorrie, that’ll do.”

2017? Oh yeah! Gorgeous fruit here, and the fourth time we’ve offered this wine. A firm fave around the office, and with you lot. Biodynamic, all the fruit, spicier than expected and begging to be cracked every day of the week. It’s dangerously moreish, don’t say you weren’t warned. We keep some in the fridge (I know!) to calm its exuberant fruit, and watch it change and pop out of the glass as it warms. Not your average cabernet, and all the better for it.

Pale pink in colour with a nose of red fruits and peach, this vino is a super light and refreshing blend of syrah, cinsault and merlot. Chateau D’Antugnac, one of the finer producers hailing from the South of France, actually create several wines for Berry Bros “Own Selection” range, including a rosé. Berry Bros, if you’re not down with the UK, have been around since 1698 and are the official booze suppliers of the Royal Family. Rumour has it ol’ Liz is a rosé fiend and smashes a glass with some smoked salmon every time a heatwave hits the motherland. 15 degrees qualifies as rosé weather, right?

We can’t get enough of the gang, and the wine, coming out of D’Sas. They’re firmly positioned towards the top of our ‘Fo favourites list. And this ‘16 single vineyard Heathcote shiraz is no exception. We sold over 5000 cases of the previous vintage and this evolution is perhaps even more special. It’s a big, bold, ruby drop that’s been crafted by a Dark Horse winemaker who knows his way around a shiraz grape. Packed full of dark plum and big spices, expect your mouth to be full of balanced tannins and hints of liquorice. Pair it with all things rich and roasted, and you’re in for a good red night.
