An extroverted red which refuses to back down, this wine from Jim Brand is fragrant with dark forest fruits seducing the nose, while traces of mint and cedar oak add a twist of regional character. A torrent of ripe plum, dark berry and blackcurrant make their presence known on the palate - clearly dominating but steering clear of overwhelming the tastebuds. The finish is superb with great length and a dry finale. An outstanding example of how to balance power with restraint, and succeed - this magnificent cab shows others how its done.

It’s no secret that Oregon has been producing some of the world’s best pinot noir for many, many years. We’re just rarely lucky enough to see it over here in Australia. And we’re pretty confident that you’ll never see it at this price, especially from Erath, one of the states most renowned and historic producers. Aromas of cherry, plum lavender and anise jump out of the glass. The first sip expresses pomegranate, cranberry and some nice acid and tannin. A bit of spice, smoke and structure comes from time spent in 20% new French oak. If you know Oregon pinot, then you’ll know what to expect. If this is your first foray into it, look out for the bright fruit of the Yarra style coupled with the wild earthiness of Central Otago.

Mofo Fave

As a buyer here at the ‘Fo, I taste through a lot of wines every day and there’s always a few surprises. As I lined up the wines from Riversdale Estate, I expected to be focussed on the pinot noir and chardonnay. This syrah was almost an afterthought as it’s not a variety you seek out from the island. But hot damn this is an excellent wine! My partner and I ended up drinking the entire bottle. It’s impeccable cool-climate shiraz. You’ll find the herbal, medicinal and earthy qualities of the best of Hawke’s Bay and Beechworth paired with the layered and complex fruit of Northern Rhône, all fit into a neat package with the elegance and spice you’d more associate with Tassie pinot noir.

Trisole translates to ‘three suns’ in English, a reference to the aforementioned sun-kissed island of Sicily that is surrounded by three seas. This nero is sourced from vineyards on the western side of the island surrounding the city of Marsala. Despite its deep, dark colour and firm structure, the wine is quite elegant with red fruits such as cherry and raspberry, hints of allspice and undergrowth, and a long, grippy finish that make it the perfect accompaniment to your homemade pasta alla Norma.

Jeb Dunnuck
Cult Producer

According to top Rhône wine critic Jeb Dunnuck, 'starting with the 2019 Côtes du Rhône from tank, it reveals a medium to full-bodied, plush, sexy style as well as loads of blueberry liqueur, ground pepper, violets, and candied orange-like aromas and flavors. With plenty of mid-palate depth, ripe, sweet tannins, and a great finish, this is a pleasure-bent Côtes du Rhône well worth seeking out that will keep for 3-4 years'.
