Pirramimma Warhorse Shiraz 2015 - 1 bottle
McLaren Vale, SA
95pts James Halliday | 5 Star Halliday Rated Winery
Sometimes words or phrases can be so very evocative. ‘Warhorse’ is certainly one of those. It evokes strength, power, determination and reliability, and it’s absolutely fitting for this wine. The Pirramimma Warhorse is sourced from old vines with miniscule yields. The palate is incredibly intense with mulberry, licorice, blueberry, anise and cedar. Preceding that is a bouquet of blackberry, plum, mint, vanilla and olive. The oak (both French and American) has been generously applied, providing a structure for aging. So get on your warhorse and prepare for battle (or some great drinking).

The 11 Mates
Maverick Silk Road Shiraz 2016 - 2 bottles
Barossa Valley, SA
94pts Sam Kim | 5 Stars Sam Kim | 5 Star Halliday Rated Winery
2+2=4. Barossa shiraz + talented producer = amazing wine. It really is a simple equation. Maverick Wines knows exactly what they are doing with their fruit and the end result is always a smashing wine. This shiraz has a few years of age on it, which has served to soften it a touch whilst still maintaining that oomph that makes the Barossa style so distinct and popular. The fruit is concentrated in the form of blackcurrant and plum, and there is a touch of earthiness underneath it all. On the finish, it’s a display of fine tannins and length, rounding out an easy-drinking wine that’ll please anyone who digs luscious shiraz.

Kirrihill Clarevale Shiraz 2018 - 2 bottles
Clare Valley, SA
Deep, sweetly fruited and moreish shiraz from Kirrihill, a Clare favourite of ours. Perfect settle-into-the-sofa wine with a bit of good TV on. There’s blackberries, raspberries and a solid lick of licorice and coffee to add some compelling complexity. It’s soft and supple and even the tannins are determined to let you have a good time. Cellar if you like, but there’s no need, really.

Shiraz 2018 - 1 bottle
Clare Valley, SA
5 Star Halliday Rated Winery
Clare Valley shiraz is in a class of its own. It benefits from the ballsy, rich-fruited, adrenaline-pumping charms of South Australia, but retains a bright flash of refreshing acidity thanks to the higher altitude. The resultant wine is fruit-forward and plush, but lighter and brighter and full of herbaceous crunch. There’s something for everyone, then, and a full spectrum of flavour. From tangy blueberries and softly scented raspberries, to summery black cherry and juicy plums. It’s tied together by a gentle peppering of tannin and a gentle kiss of oak.

First Sighting Shiraz 2018 - 2 bottles
Cape Agulhas, South Africa
97pts SAWI Gold Medal | SAWI Platinum Medal | Single Vineyard
Cape Agulhas. Ever heard of it? Pop it into google maps and take a look at exactly where this drop hales from. You can’t get much more south of Africa than that. It’s where the Indian and Atlantic oceans meet and you could certainly classify it as a maritime climate, cool enough to produce the elegant, lifted, lighter and peppery styles of shiraz. The Vinomofo buying team has been working hard to answer the calls of our members to get some more South African wine over here and we’re rapt the day has finally arrived. The First Sighting shiraz is a safe place to start your South African wine journey and there’s plenty more where that came from when you’re ready to venture out and discover all they have to offer.
YOU’D PAY $25 full price.
Shiraz 2017 - 2 bottles
Frankland River, WA
94pts Huan Hooke | 91pts James Halliday | 5 Star Halliday Rated Winery
So this is Frankland River shiraz, but there’s a dash of something else in it. We’re talking about 5% here, but you can tell it’s there. It’s not viognier, grenache, cab sav or one of the other obvious varieties to blend with shiraz. But based on what it brings to this wine, perhaps it should have been obvious to include it all along. Like any good Frankland River shiraz, this one has oodles of berries, fine tannins and a slick medium-bodied palate. But our secret little addition contributes some rustic savouriness that you just don’t get in other shiraz from the region. We’re thinking this is how wine trends start. Get in early on it before it goes mainstream.

Hollick The Bard Limestone Coast Shiraz 2016 - 2 bottles
Limestone Coast, SA
It’s appropriate that I want to wax lyrical about this wine, isn’t it? It kinda reminds me of my wedding chocolates: a dark raspberry ganache from Koko Black, with a crisp-cracking exterior and a velvet-smooth core. Add in some earthiness and black fruits, plus a few seeds of vanilla bean and we’re getting pretty close. It’s a hearty wine for celebrating life, effortlessly matching savoury to silky; yin and yang in a playful package of delicious mirth, embodying the spirit of the bard it pays tribute to.
YOU’D PAY $20 full price.
What is a Black Market deal?
Black Market deals are only made possible if we don’t reveal the maker’s brand on site. The wines are the genuine article – absolutely no cleanskins or fake brands, just dangerously good value. You won’t find out what it is until it hits your doorstep, but you won’t regret it. Just keep it on the down low.
