Why do we love this case?

The Boss is in town, and so are 11 of its mates! Did someone say CABERN-HAAYY? No one is safe from this box of boldness (or the ensuing cheesy puns). No more impressing the boss; it’s time for the boss to impress YOU. Get excited for a top notch cabernet worth $100 - as well as 11 other mates.

Each case contains the below:

Penley Estate Eos Coonawarra Cabernet Blend 2016 - 1 bottle

Coonawarra, SA

97pts Halliday Wine Companion | 94pts Wine Enthusiast | Halliday Special Value Aware | 5 Star Halliday Rated Winery

Get your game face on...the boss is here. This is the top wine from Penley Estate, one of the most renowned producers in Coonawarra. It’s spectacularly intense in flavour and concentration, without being unwieldy in weight. Blackcurrants and boysenberries abound, with a bright graphite streak and a liberal scattering of dried herbs and potent tannin. There’s a scintillating hint of exotic spice, too. You can cellar it for eons; time is most definitely on its side. Coonawarra at its towering best.

YOU’d $100 full price.

The 11 Mates

Cabernet Sauvignon 2015 - 1 bottle

Coonawarra, SA

5 Star Halliday Rated Winery

Coonawarra gets all the attention, but Wrattonbully perhaps deserves the same acclaim. It’s only twenty minutes down the road, generally provides better value and has a cooler name in my opinion (just saying’, not that it matters for what’s in the bottle). This cabernet comes from a national producer who works wonders in the region and exhibits all the classic hallmarks of the variety held together by some healthy French oak treatment. On top of all that, it’s already got five years of age, placing it right in its drinking prime.

Cabernet Malbec 2018 - 2 bottles

Margaret River, WA

5 Red Star Halliday Rated Winery

There’s a theory behind the practice of blending other varietals with cabernet in Bordeaux. The vignerons say that cabernet is a bit of a donut on the palate, big and rich around the sides with a hole in the middle. That’s where the other varietals come into play. While malbec isn’t commonly known as a Bordeaux grape, it has a home there. So when this West Australian winemaker followed the path of those classic French winemakers, he was venturing down a well-worn path. The result is a wine with all the varietal hallmarks of cabernet surrounding some extra oomph in the form of earthiness, spice and dark black fruit provided by malbec.

Cabernet Sauvignon 2018 - 2 bottles

Limestone Coast, VIC

94pts Sam Kim | 5 Stars Sam Kim | Single Vineyard

This tasty cabernet straddles both worlds of youthful and serious, from Coonawarra’s little brother region of the Limestone Coast. Drinkability is at the forefront, with just enough tannin structure to make you know it’s cabernet. Black currants, spice and dark herbaceous notes are underscored by licorice and a touch of pepper. Fruit delivers powerfully and with some unexpected mid-palate richness. Long-lasting Limestone Coast goodness right here.

Cabernet Sauvignon 2016 - 2 bottles

Great Southern, WA

90pts James Halliday | 5 Red Star Halliday Rated Winery | Killer Vintage

2016 was an exceptional vintage in Great Southern for red wines. The growing season began with a cool spring, and that coolness continued throughout the summer nights. That results in slow, gentle ripening, creating complexity and nuance in the wines. This 2016 cab sav, made by one of the region’s top producers, has herbaceousness and blueberries on the nose, along with cassis and pepper on the palate and fine tannins on the finish. There’s a lot going on in the bottle for a wine of this price.

Cabernet Sauvignon 2019 - 2 bottles

Mendoza, Argentina

Mighty Mendoza has muscled its way into the hearts of wine-lovers the world over, thanks to its plush-but-lively reds. This cab won’t let you down. Boisterous blackcurrant and bay leaf, tingling tannins and awesome acidity make this the perfect foil for your Sunday roast. Cellar for a decade, or decant for an hour tomorrow.

Cabernet Merlot 2014 - 2 bottles

Margaret River, WA

Gold Medal Royal Hobart Wine Show | Gold Medal Margaret River Wine Show | 91pts James Halliday | Special Value James Halliday | 5 Red Star Halliday Rated Winery

Time is kind to cabernet blends. A handful of years is just what it needs to soften out the often robust, prominent tannins and frame the nuanced flavour profile; and what a profile it is. Jam packed with powerful redcurrant and blueberry forest fruits that play a co-starring role with powerful cedar, milk chocolate and bay leaf notes; all classic, common and noticeable traits to that of any Margaret River cabernet blend. This 5 red star producer is constantly pumping out quality drops and with 2 gold medals hanging around its neck, this one is just another string to its bow. Tip your hat to the french and pair this with a Provencal beef daube stew that’s just as good (if not better) the next day.

What is a Black Market deal?

Black Market deals are only made possible if we don’t reveal the maker’s brand on site. The wines are the genuine article – absolutely no cleanskins or fake brands, just dangerously good value. You won’t find out what it is until it hits your doorstep, but you won’t regret it. Just keep it on the down low.
