In the immortal words of our legendary wine dealer Jordan, “It’s 100% chardonnay so it’s quite a light style, but still has those typical quite full-bodied characteristics to it. It’s got a little bit of that toastiness to it, a nice creamy mousse from the bubbles and it’s really nice and dry too. It’s got everything and it’s so well-balanced. I reckon this is one you’d break out on Christmas Day, or any kind of event, because it makes you look fancy as f*ck – the bottle itself looks so, so good, so if you can break this out and be like oh yeah totally, I can buy this type of Champagne, everyone will stop and be like whaaaat seriously?”

Rosé from the Mediterranean coast of France has set the world benchmark for style and you’d expect nothing less from the French, who are absolute pioneers of wine. This is a classic example of the style. Salmon pink, luminous and fresh as a sea breeze; just one whiff of this is enough to make you want to break out the sandals and wide-brim hat. It’s all about softly sweet red berries balanced by a gentle savoury crispness. From poolside to long lunch to New Year’s cheers, this wine has summer written all over it.

Made by the team at Matahiwi, who are known to over-deliver, this pinot does, and then some! Light and bright, it ticks the fruit, complexity and pinosity boxes with a flourish. Sam Kim calls it: “attractively fruited and beautifully complex”. We call it: “get in my glass and get in NOW!”.

The Yarra Valley is such a powerhouse for chardonnay and this wine, made by the fantastic Rob Dolan, shows you why. It has complexity and yumminess at the same time, as fruit and acid dance together on the palate. Green apple, grapefruit and stone fruit are all there in this light-medium bodied fresh and delicious wine.

Sicily may not be the traditional heartland of italian pinot grigio, but it sure as hell produces a good one. They’ve got some wonderful soils there, loads of lovely nourishing sunshine and cooling sea breezes to retain the freshness in the wine. A sip of this is enough to take you there. Crunchy pink lady apples, dribble-down-your-chin pears, zesty citrus aromatics and a soft almondy finish. Beyond delicious, really.
