What do you get when you blend two Corsican grapes you’ve never heard of, sciacarellu and nielluciu, into a rosé? Something surprisingly familiar but with a funky little twist. There’s the typical comfort of a savoury, slightly spicy, and imminently bright pink wine with all the usual fruit characters, yet that vineyard proximity to the sea has provided an underlying touch of minerality and saltiness, lifting the wine to the next level. Something comforting but slightly new...like an old friend you haven’t seen in a long time that’s grown into someone even more loveable.

Hawkes Bay is known for bigger, richer chardy. Using American oak and malolactic fermentation also makes for bigger, richer chardy. So it is absolutely no surprise that if you put Hawkes Bay chardy into American oak to go through malolactic fermentation, you are going to end up with an immensely big and rich chardy. And that’s just what the winemaker at Coopers Creek did. We’re talking vanilla, cream, lemon, hazelnut and grapefruit with a bit of cedary oak in the background. If you love powerful, mouth-filling and smooth chardonnay, then this one’s for you.

Another year and another glorious vintage of one of our absolute favourites. We are still wondering if this “Golden Hillside” is an actual place, or a mythical place of the gods. The riesling from the Hillside is nothing short of heavenly, and the price suggests some sort of divine intervention. Plus, however high the vineyards of Clare Valley can get, surely those planted on celestial slopes are moreso. How else would you get such an otherworldly balance of drool-worthy lime and sunshine-soaked lemons, refreshing minerality and cloudlike complexity? The bottle definitely says Clare Valley though.

Patritti make excellent wines from the Hills and McLaren Vale. Their sauv blanc has all of the variety’s highlights, complimented by a firm texture and great line of acid. It's not so much tropical or grassy; rather, fresh and vibrant, broad and bright. Apple, lime zest and grapefruit pith abound and it’s a wine that would work well across cuisines. What a delight!

Along with big reds, aromatic whites grow very well in the cool climes of Wrattonbully. This is an example from Haselgrove that we like a lot. It’s classic, melony, with pear-driven lusciousness and appley goodness running from the generosity of Golden Delicious right through to the almost bashfully exuberant Fuji. Fresh, fleshy and mouth-wateringly moreish, if you don’t know why we love this already, find out why.

Need a little help getting the party started? Let us reintroduce this little helper... Fizzing with good, clean fun it comes from Australia’s hottest prosecco region and is made by a winery team who just so happen to be one of Halliday’s top ten ‘Dark Horses’ of 2016. Party started? It’s already begun! We’re talking about a super fresh sparkling that’s bursting with pears, citrus fruits, apples and a lively line of acidity. This prosecco is pure joy in a glass, and on a hot day, the closest thing to heaven you’ll find in the fridge.
