Why do we love this case?

This is the closest you’re gonna get to seeing a Black Market mixed case dressed head-to-toe in white linen and a Panama hat. It’s the Black Market, after all, and has to retain a certain air of mystique. This case is the perfect mix of Summer-ready hits, though, and has all you’ll need to get through the sweaty season.

Every case contains one of each of the following:

Dessert Wine 2015

Rhone Valley, France

Old Vine muscat blanc from a producer spanning some of the most prestigious crus in Beaujolais. Yes you did read that right. Old vine muscat blanc, with all the residual sugar you could possibly ask for.

Exotic blossoms, honeyed white fruits, lashings of balanced citrus and a fine, textural finish - this wine is the real deal, honey. Lusciously sweet and oh so pair-able. Did someone say blue cheese?

YOU’D PAY $30.00 full price.

Shiraz 2017

Clare Valley, South Australia

5 star Halliday rated winery

Clare Valley shiraz is in a class of its own. It benefits from the ballsy, rich-fruited, adrenaline-pumping charms of South Australia, but retains a bright flash of refreshing acidity thanks to the higher altitude. The resultant wine is fruit-forward and plush, but lighter and brighter and full of herbaceous crunch. There’s something for everyone, then, and a full spectrum of flavour. From tangy blueberries and softly scented raspberries, to summery black cherry and juicy plums. It’s tied together by a gentle peppering of tannin and a gentle kiss of oak.

Riesling 2018

Upper Goulburn, Victoria

5 red star Halliday rated winery | 8/10 Halliday rated vintage

There is riesling - and then there is high altitude cool climate riesling. When you need to scratch your riesling itch, this is the bottle to do it - especially to get those hard-to-reach places on your palate. Savour this wine’s clean floral nose with musk and a tiny touch of lychee. The palate is certainly fresh and zippy with lemon, lime and sherbert notes. And there’s a nice mineral/chalky texture here that makes it very more-ish, especially with all the lemon tang going on. Serve it up with your favourite Vietnamese or Thai takeaway for a cheap night in.

YOU’D PAY $28.00 full price.

Cabernet Blend 2017

King Valley, Victoria

5 star Halliday rated winery

When one of our favourite winemakers in the King Valley asks us to come around and taste a few bottles, we come running. He’s a gun with the usual suspects from the region - sangiovese, pinot grigio and, of course, prosecco - but also one of the few that makes cabernet and shiraz fit to stand alongside some of that nation’s best. This classic Aussie blend is medium-bodied, bright, ripe with plum and cassis, and finishes with fine, fine tannins.

YOU’D PAY $27.00 full price.

Sauvignon Blanc 2019

Pemberton, Western Australia

5 red star Halliday rated winery

Here’s a real goldilocks wine. Not too heavy. Not too light. It’s just right, with the perfect touch of ripe kiwifruit, gooseberry and spicy nettles on the nose. The palate is lively with citrus notes and fresh lime acidity that keeps you coming back for more. A very savvy sauvignon blanc!

Pinot Gris 2019

Limestone Coast, South Australia

If you spend a bare minimum on cologne or perfume, you may find a pearl – but you’re likely to end up with something really stanky. The same’s not true for wine at the ‘fo, and this gris is a perfect case in point. This is beautifully perfumed, gorgeously lifted and wonderfully fruity. A cool, elegant acidity drives the experience with poise and grace. The finish is long and lingering. It’s miraculous winemaking for your money, and we’re totally in love.

YOU’D PAY $27.00 full price.

Shiraz Blend 2017

McLaren Vale, South Australia

Ok, mofos, I’m not going mad. First thing I smelt here was olives. Not literal olives, naturally. We’re talking tasting notes here. Alongside that savoury deliciousness sit some rather beautiful berries. Give it a swirl and their perfume is delightfully evident. A handful of strawberries, couple of blueberries, a dribble of plums, and a faint dusting of clove on the finish. It’s the kind of wine that brings people together round the dinner table. It’s honest, dependable and delicious.

YOU’D PAY $25.00 full price.

Prosecco NV

King Valley, Victoria

93pts Sam Kim | 5 Star Halliday rated producer

Need a little help getting the party started? Let us reintroduce this little helper... Fizzing with good, clean fun it comes from Australia’s hottest prosecco region and is made by a winery team who just so happen to be one of Halliday’s top ten ‘Dark Horses’ of 2016. Party started? It’s already begun!

We’re talking about a super fresh sparkling that’s bursting with pears, citrus fruits, apples and a lively line of acidity. This prosecco is pure joy in a glass, and on a hot day, the closest thing to heaven you’ll find in the fridge.

Rosé 2018

Gold - Concours Général Agricole Paris

Really, mofo, you know what this tastes like. Rosé from the Mediterranean coast of France has set the world benchmark for style and, now moreso than ever, is being emulated all over the globe as consumption of pink vino skyrockets. This is a classic example of the style. Salmon pink, luminous, and fresh as a sea breeze, just one whiff of this is enough to make you want to break out the crisp white linens. It’s all about softly sweet red berries balanced by a gentle savoury crispness. Everything is cool, calm and collected - this is summer drinking after all and it’s too hot to go OTT.

YOU’D PAY $25.00 full price.

Merlot Blend 2018

Bordeaux, France

Gold - Concours International de Lyon 2019 | Gold - Concours des Grands Vins de France Macon 2019 | Gold - Concours General Agricole Paris 2019

A wise man once told me that the magic of Bordeaux is that everyone can afford it. Even the cheapest Burgundies come at a premium, but there’s a Bordeaux for every price bracket. Sadly, I can’t remember who that wise man was, or even if I simply dreamed the interaction – but either way it’s true. We’re not talking 1er Cru Classé here, but that’s not the point either. This is genuinely delicious, characteristic and smashable Bordeaux red that’s unpretentious enough to come at a reasonable price. That’s a kind of special all of its own we reckon.

YOU’D PAY $22.00 full price.

Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

Limestone Coast, South Australia

Gold - China Wine & Spirits Awards 2019 | Gold - China Wine & Spirits Awards Best Value 2019

If you’ve ever turned your nose up at Limestone Coast as a region, you’ve been missing out. They’re hell-bent on making a name for themselves and this cabernet is proof. Bright, clean and plucky in the glass, it’s unmistakably varietal, surprisingly nuanced and devilishly easy drinking. Soft, supple tannins mean it’s versatile as you like and can be drunk alone, even if it makes for a stunning food wine. No surprises in terms of flavour: blackberries, mint, cedar, tobacco and generous handfuls of spice.

YOU’D PAY $20.00 full price.

Chardonnay 2017

Great Southern, Western Australia

92pts Sam Kim | 5 red star Halliday rated winery

You’ve probably noticed us raving about Great Southern chardy in the past. They’ve been the nation’s best kept secret for quite a while now. But, with the incredible wines available and the high scores absolutely rolling in, we reckon it’s a secret no longer. So, we could keep banging on about how you should give them a go, that you won’t be disappointed etc. But, we reckon it’s not even necessary any more. This particular beauty has all the delicious flavours and elegant complexity of its compatriots. It’s money no mofo regrets spending once the wine is in their glass.

YOU’D PAY $20.00 full price.

What is a Black Market Deal?

Black Market deals are only made possible if we don’t reveal the maker’s brand on site. The wines are the genuine article, absolutely no cleanskins or fake brands, just dangerously good value. You won’t find out what it is until it hits your doorstep, but you won’t regret it. Just keep it on the down low.
