Why do we love this case?

This Spanish Lineup is a feast of deliciousness for the intrepid drinker. From the famous Rioja, the undisputed jewel in the crown of Spanish wine, to the sunny plains of Jumilla and into the wild, wet of the west in Galicia. It’s a box of wine you’ll want to have around. At the heart of it, these wines are lively and made with some serious Spanish flare. Nothing too serious, just seriously good drinking!

We’re pleased to welcome back another vintage of El Buscador (the Searcher) by the team at Finca de la Rica in Spain’s most famous region of La Rioja. Finca de la Rica are some of the nicest guys in the wine industry. You don’t go a minute with them without wine in your glass, food on your plate and a good chat. Muy buena gente. Like the 2016, this is top-notch Rioja. You can tell just by looking at it. It looks somehow livelier in the glass, more vital and intense. Tempranillo and garnacha make up the mix here (90/10%), singing of juicy cherries and plums. Oak treatment comprises of a 70-30 French-American split, giving darker toasty notes and a background coconuty hint. The wine is deep and complex, but also fun and never too imposing. For fans of the 2016, this new vintage is a touch more concentrated, as it contains declassified barrels of some of their top sites.

James Suckling

This is the fun side of Rioja. Somewhere between the vacuous berry-laden boppers and the leather-armchair-and-cigar-smoke intensity of the Gran Reservas. Arrestingly bright, but not lacking for complexity, this is a cracking wine to pull out for dinner at your place. Blueberries, black plum, red cherries, a tickle of oak and a titter of black tea. Charming as hell and doubly delicious.

Well how about that mofo. Not only are you getting a Rioja for your weeknight drinking, but it all comes to you with an organic stamp of approval. That sounds like a win-win to us. It’s another win that the wine was produced by the legends at Bodegas Ondarre who celebrate Rioja like the best producers out of Burgundy or Bordeaux. Supple, plush, and harmonious vino that will make you feel good in more ways than one. Just the way good wine should!

This is your weekday Rioja - younger, fresher and easier than its aged counterparts and all the better for it. It’s a blend of tempranillo, with a douse of grenache and graciano. All the grapes coming together to make a very tasty wine that hits notes and harmonies you would never expect. There’s cherry and licorice on the nose, followed by ripe plum, sour cherry and a touch of cola on the palate. Medium-bodied and just purely delicious, with or without food.

Bodegas Olivares are a family-run winery in the sunny region of Jumilla in the south-east of Spain that we’re always proud to work with. We’ve always received some of our best value wines from them, vintage after vintage. This is a rework of the popular GSM, with the local monastrell (or ‘mataro’ to Aussies) taking the lead role to make an MGS. The wine has sun-drenched summer fruit with a fresh, breezy acidity from the high altitude in which it’s grown. With sweet, swarthy berries and an exotically spiced finish, we can attest that it’s bloody hard to turn down a second (or third) glass.

New to the 'Fo

'Delicious' is the word we used to describe this wine, one that was repeated by James Suckling in his review of this tidy number. Although in the shadows of the neighbouring region of Rioja, the Cariñena wine region is home to Bodegas San Valero, and some of the oldest wine growing plains in the world. The familiar friends in grenache and carignan make up this blend, with an inky deep core of blackberries and dark cherries, even a touch of kirsc comes through before the firm tannins make themselves known. While many overlook the region, you won't be able to overlook this wine once it's in your glass.
