Sadly, this deal has sold out
Why do we love this case?

A couple of shiraz, a couple of cabs, a GSM and a Rioja walked into a bar. We snapped them up and put them in a mixed pack. Two of each of them, in fact. And the punch line is that if you love to have a high quality selection of reds in your house and don’t want to think too hard about it - then this one’s a no-brainer.

Each pack contains TWO bottles of each of the following red vinos that are anything but simple:

Red
Cabernet Sauvignon
Victoria

Mount Avoca Back Blocks Victoria Cabernet Sauvignon 2014
Blackcurrant
Cedar
Mint
Medium-bodied
Bright
Concentrated
Tony Keys
5 Star Halliday rated producer

So the Back Block range, comin’ from a 5 red star and ‘Fo favourite producer, takes the best fruit from local growers and combines it with Mount Avoca’s personal stash to make Pyrenees perfection. Or close to it, at least, because the fruit comes from a mishmash of localities (and nothing is perfect). With 95 points from Tony Keys, the ‘14 vintage of this cab sauv has blackcurrant and cedar flavours along with notes of mocha and cherry. “It unfolds and layers reveal themselves”, says Tony, and “the more one toys with the wine the more it gives”. We’re in.

Halliday's Winemaker of the Year

Winemaker Julian Langworthy hasn’t just won the Jimmy Watson with his shiraz in the past. He’s also just been whacked with Winemaker of the Year by James Halliday in the Halliday Wine Companion 2019 - one of the the industry’s highest honours. So if you’re going to have a shiraz, anything crafted by his hands is a pretty safe bet. And this side project (with the famed Fogarty family - you know… Lake’s Folly, Evans & Tate, Deep Woods etc.) allows Julian all the freedom to flaunt this winemaking prowess however he sees fit. And so he saw fit to make a juicy and approachable, darkly-fruited and deeply flavoured shiraz from first rate Frankland River fruit, and we saw fit to snap it up for you. Compared to the Barossa ballbusters you’re used to, this one’s inky, exotically spiced and fine-grained. And bound to leave you thirsty for more.

Más De Víctor Rioja Seleccion Especial 2017
Blackberry
Chocolate
Licorice
Medium-bodied
Bright
Concentrated

One of our best Spanish offers is back, with a cracking Rioja from the 2017 vintage. Mas de Victor simply means “More from Victor”. Víctor Fernández de Manzanos winery, to be precise. This is in response to public clamouring for more wines from this very well-regarded winery, and the winery has once again satisfied this demand. Black fruits, choc-licorice and spice lead the charge, with an elegant, rounded, fleshy palate following suit. This wine passes any drinkability test with flying colours, and will be gone before you can even think, “More from Victor, please!” More is more, as they say. A genuine Spanish crowd pleaser.

Two Blues Shiraz 2017
Blueberry
Pepper
Strawberry
Medium-bodied
Fresh
Elegant

This is as soft and approachable as it sets out to be, with a full mid-palate of juicy fruit and enough tannin to keep things interesting. When you want a crowd-pleaser, this is it. No hard edges. Loads of blueberry, plum, raspberry and blueberry with just a touch of licorice, a dusting of cocoa plus a bit of black pepper and classy tobacco leaf to spice things up. We’re currently “tasting” this after hours at Mofo HQ and the feedback was “that’s really good!” and “I really like it - really nice colour”. This from mofos who have strong opinions and have been coddled with pretty swanky reds of late. Huh. Should have read my notes. It all makes more sense now. One of the Kreglinger (Pipers Brook et al) projects, now headed up by Jim Chatto. His golden touch is evident. I’m loving this.

Mofo fave

From one of the great Clare vintages comes this diminutively priced cabernet, from dry-grown wines in the dark soils of the Armagh Valley, and made by Angela Meaney of Stonebridge Wines. With six years under its belt, this sturdy little number punches well, well above its price point. Classy aged cabernet you can afford to have every lunch time.

After selling out of the ‘15 shiraz from 3 Sisters & A Brother we thought it best we bring in their GSM to keep you satisfied. It’s reppin’ 93 points and a gold medal from Wine Showcase and combines red and dark fruits, with redcurrants and blueberries working to bring together a flavoursome, fresh, fruity blend. This is a Barossa GSM going for under nine bucks a bottle so if you’re into your Barossa reds, it’s an awesome one to have handy as an everyday quaffer.
