Big, bold and bright! It’s that classic Aussie combo of shiraz and cabernet, made by Pepper Tree and straight outta Wrattonbully, the region with maybe the coolest name in Australia (one could argue for Tumbarumba though). Anyways, Wrattonbully runs up against Coonawarra on one side and the beach on the other. The grapes enjoy the maritime influence, leading to impressive structure in cabernet and condensed flavours in shiraz. Pepper Tree combines the two varietals, giving you the best of both worlds with intense red fruit and spice, held together by soft, yet quite present tannins. No wonder us Aussies perfected this blend.

Portugal's touriga and tempranillo (aka tinta roriz) combine to make a fruit-forward, plush and food-friendly wine. If you like McLaren reds, this is going to be a lovely departure from shiraz, showing off plums, cherries and herbaceousness. It's got a few years on it, so it's got a smooth and mellow palate - ready to open and enjoy.

The team at Silkwood Estate have done a sterling job with this cabernet malbec blend. It's all plums backed up with subtle oak, spice and a touch of fennel showing some varietal leafiness and liquorice in there. And then more subtle notes poke through with violets and dry summer earth rounding out with a bit of cherry oak. Big, rich and full-flavoured, there are nice chunky tannins here providing grip, without being overly drying or cloying. This is bang on. The malbec certainly adds a dose of good vibes.

The wine is powerful and richly textured with excellent fruit purity, seamlessly framed by silky tannins." - Sam Kim

Great Southern shiraz is usually silky smooth, a bit rich, just over medium-bodied and incredible value. This one is no different and comes from Rosenthal, one of our favourite producers down in the bottom left corner of the continent. It’s brambly, a dash spicy, full of cherry and plum, and finished off with a nice even lick of French oak. Perfect everyday drinking with no occasion necessary.
