This blend of 60/40 shiraz and cabernet is an absolute stunner. "A stunning offering" so says wine critic, Sam Kim. Sam tastes wines for a living so rest assured, he knows what's good. "The wine is stacked with blackberry, dark spice and cedar characters with hints of floral and dried herb notes. It’s powerful and opulent, displaying outstanding concentration and depth, together with velvety texture and firm tannins, ensuring its long, graceful development." Warramunda Estate has packed an enchanting wine into a beautiful bottle. The wine is appropriately labelled as syrah, a nod to the medium-bodied weight of the wine, the silky mouthfeel and a savouriness drawn from whole bunch pressing. The nose is of red fruits and roses and the palate carries pepper, spice and earthiness. If you are into cool climate shiraz, this is the complete package. Plus it’s crafted by Ben Haines, one of Victoria's top winemakers. What more could you ask for?

St Johns Brook have a vineyard established in 1998, and work with close-to-organic, sustainable practices. The quality of the fruit shines through in their wines, particularly this reserve shiraz. There are firm dark fruits, like plums and blackberries, with a medium body and a softness in texture. The wine has seen 14 months in 50% new French and Hungarian oak providing it with beautiful chocolate and coffee notes, and abundant tannins.

The Halliday Wine Companion rated Heathcote’s 2016 vintage a 9 out of 10 score with shiraz leading the charge as the grape of choice after a warm, dry summer of ripening. If you like your reds big and bold, look no further than this Sunshine Creek shiraz. Unapologetically large aromas of ripened dark fleshy fruits, robust wood and coffee characters kick off proceedings and carry through the palate and long after the finish with mouth-coating viscosity. This power house is not for the faint of heart. Pop a juicy steak on the grill and coat it in some rich BBQ sauce and this oak-laden wine will pair just perfectly. Get ready for a flavour sensation.

This is one I’m quite excited about. For the sake of transparency, I am a huge fan of the style of shiraz that comes out of Beechworth, all savoury with bright fruit, earthiness, herbal notes and fine tannins. It’s a little glimpse of the Northern Rhône at home in Australia. The shiraz we have here is all that and then some. It comes from Warner Vineyard, a site that provides fruit to some of the region’s most renowned producers including Giaconda. There’s a partial whole bunch fermentation, providing some extra herbaceousness, and the wine spent 14 months on full lees in a mix of old and new oak. The wine was then bottled unfined and unfiltered, maintaining maximum flavour and texture whilst also keeping the wine vegan-friendly.

If you were hanging out in South Australia in the 1880’s, you’d know Pikes for their beers. Fast forward 100 years and and several generations and the Pike family has firmly established themselves as one of the premier wine producers in the Clare Valley. Hops and grapevines, a rather abstract take on the tradition family tree. Their Cottage shiraz speaks loudly of the Clare style - a bit less dense than wines from the neighbouring Barossa, but still deep and concentrated with all the hallmarks of an Aussie’s favourite red.
