There’s a reason shiraz has long been Australia’s favourite grape, and has similarly taken the rest of the world by storm. Ol’ dependable is always packed to the gills with flavour, but offers so much variation from region to region that you never get bored.
Every case contains TWO bottles of each of the following:
Shiraz 2017
Pyrenees, VIC
Boutique Producer
The Pyrenees region is a tiny winemaking gem in western Victoria that sits at the foothills of the mountain range of the same name. They are most famous for their quality shiraz (well, at least in Victoria!). This wine from 2017 is a great example of their medium-bodied, dark-fruited and freshly-spiced style.
It starts a bit reserved on the nose, but after a bit of air reveals dark fruit, cocoa and a touch of baking spice. The wine is fresh and firm on the palate and just really bloody good. There is lots of dark fruit, like ripe plums and blackberries, earthiness, and there’s a freshness, but it’s not acidic, just kinda cool. The tannins are super-fine and building, with good length and a little bit of dutch licorice on the finish. Really good shiraz.
YOU’D PAY $40 full price.

Now there are just some things that go together, like bacon and eggs or Batman and Robin. Heathcote and shiraz! Made by the excellent team at Greenstone, it has a warm and rich palate full of mulberry, plum and wild thyme. It's beautifully layered with an elegant finish. This is a beaut of a shiraz.

Deep, sweetly fruited and moreish shiraz from Kirrihill, a Clare favourite of ours. Perfect settle-into-the-sofa wine with a bit of good TV on. There’s blackberries, raspberries and a solid lick of licorice and coffee to add some compelling complexity. It’s soft and supple and even the tannins are determined to let you have a good time. Cellar if you like, but there’s no need, really.

We're going to let wine critic Sam Kim do the work here: "A delectably expressed shiraz; the perfumed bouquet shows dark plum, sweet cherry, subtle spice and floral aromas with hints of cocoa and cedar. It's wonderfully weighted and rounded on the palate, delivering fabulous fruit purity together with silky texture and rounded tannins. Flavoursome and instantly appealing. At its best: now to 2034."

This is delicious, juicy, medium-bodied food wine from legendary d’Arenberg in McLaren Vale, with a bouquet and palate full of fruit and spice. Blue and red berries, liquorice and a touch of sour plum freshness are wound together by tannin and oak that are both playing a perfect supporting role to the fruit.
