Why do we love this case?

There’s a reason shiraz has long been Australia’s favourite grape, and has similarly taken the rest of the world by storm. Ol’ dependable is always packed to the gills with flavour, but offers so much variation from region to region that you never get bored.

Every case contains TWO bottles of each of the following:

2+2=4. Barossa shiraz + talented producer = amazing wine. It really is a simple equation. Maverick Wines knows exactly what they are doing with their fruit and the end result is always a smashing wine. This shiraz has a few years of age on it, which has served to soften it a touch whilst still maintaining that oomph that makes the Barossa style so distinct and popular. The fruit is concentrated in the form of blackcurrant and plum, and there is a touch of earthiness underneath it all. On the finish, it’s a display of fine tannins and length, rounding out an easy-drinking wine that’ll please anyone who digs luscious shiraz.

New to the 'Fo

Here is the wild side of the Hunter Valley with Wildstreak shiraz, made by fifth generation winemaker Peter Drayton. He describes these wines as 'embodying the audacious spirit and the adventurous vision of his early pioneering forefathers.' This single vineyard shiraz has vibrant deep colour, aromas of blueberry and pepper and a palate of dark plum and soft oak-derived tannins. We think his forefathers would approve.

Kevin Mitchell is best known for his work making wines for Kilikanoon, but Woodvale is his own project. This Clare Valley shiraz combines the richness of the Barossa style with the earthiness of the McLaren style in a silky, smooth little package. Not too heavy, not too light, but just right.

Helen's Hill make great wines from across Victoria and in this case it's single vineyard Heathcote shiraz. With that classic Heathcote pepper and freshness, this wine spends 10 months in French oak, 10% of which is new. It’s overflowing with blueberries and earthiness - it's deliciously smooth with abundant, fine tannins.

I'm not sure what I like more, the medium-bodied, smooth and delicious shiraz, or it's beautiful packaging. Needless to say, this Margs producer has nailed both of them, If you like your shiraz somewhere between the power of SA and the elegance of VIC, this one will hit the spot.
