Yelland & Papps have crafted a fantastic single vineyard Barossa shiraz made from old vines on the western ridge of the valley. Thereās opulence, fruit weight, fine tannins and a long finish on this one. Wild yeast has been utilised before nearly two years in a mix of new and seasoned French and American oak. Plum, mulberry and clove jump out of the glass upon first whiff. The palate expands even further with vanilla, licorice, dark chocolate and graphite. Smoothness, complexity and depth all wrapped up in a velvety package. This is really, really good stuff.

Another day, another delightful top notch Margaret River shiraz...this one coming from Heydon Estate. Itās just so silky smooth and easy. Everything you look for out of complex shiraz but just a dash less heavy than those SA versions. Plum and blackberry, licorice and fig, white pepper and leather. Thereās power and tannin to tame that big steak, but elegance to keep you from feeling too heavy in the head. When it comes to quality Margs shiraz, itās all about the balance. And this oneās firmly on the tightrope.

When Wood Park in the King Valley asks us to come around and taste a few bottles, we come running. Winemaker John Stokes is a gun with the usual suspects from the region - sangiovese, pinot grigio and, of course, prosecco - but also one of the few that makes shiraz and cabernet fit to stand alongside some of that nationās best. This classic Aussie blend is medium-bodied, bright, ripe with plum and cassis, and finishes with fine, fine tannins.

The Amelia Park Ironstone is, without doubt, one of the most popular weāve ever seen at Vinomofo. How popular is popular, you ask? Well, thirsty mofos took over 30,000 bottles of a previous vintage off our hands. Yup. We know itās a great wine deal but when our mofo members are this unanimous in their desire for this drop; well itās simply cause for one big shiraz glugginā celebration. Full bodied and silky smooth with lashings of plums and earthy spice; if youāre quaffing this Frankland River gem on a week night, know youāre in good company alongside many a mofo. With one fist in the air (and the other holding a glass of this wine) we salute you!
