Why do we love this case?

Oh shiraz! Our one and only national obsession and love affair! This collection of shiraz is anything but ordinary. From your special bottle to your weekday quaffer, we’ve got you covered. From elegant and poised to rich and raucous, there’s a little bit of everything and more.

Each case contains ONE of each of the following:

Grenache Shiraz 2019

McLaren Vale, SA

5 Red Star Halliday Rated Winery | Old Vines

McLaren Vale grenache is having a bit of a renaissance. And when you pair it with the region’s most prominent variety in shiraz, you can’t go wrong. The grapes for this wine have been sourced from dry-grown old bush vines and put into concrete and old oak to really just add a bit of texture and seasoning rather than overt woody influence. The grenache provides that electric vibrancy and freshness which is supported by dense fruit from the shiraz. A magical blend that’ll have you rethinking what the Vale is capable of.

Shiraz 2015

McLaren Vale, SA

95pts Sam Kim | 5 Red Star Halliday Rated Winery

This is a dark, brooding red with incredible depth of flavour that matches the colour. A heady perfume of blackberries, black olives, toasted chocolate biscuits (if that wasn’t a thing, it is now!), earth, exotic spices and seared steak float up out of the glass with each swirl. The palate is as the nose promises – rich and complex. There are firm tannins to guide you and surprisingly powerful acidity to drive the finish home and lift that deep savoury complexity to new heights. A very generous 29 months in French and American hogsheads gives all that oaky richness and a good bit of additional tannin that’s integrated tremendously well after four years now.  This will last for many years in your cellar yet, but I can attest it’s drinking bloody well as we speak, too.

YOU’D PAY $55 full price.

Shiraz 2017

McLaren Vale, SA

5 Red Star Halliday Rated Winery | Certified Biodynamic | Single Vineyard

This one is for lovers of old-school, traditional, no-nonsense, well-made McLaren Vale shiraz. This ticks all the boxes for a top-notch drop too. It’s from an acclaimed single vineyard in the vale. The berries were hand picked in a sensational vintage from century old vines. It was given the royal treatment, with lashings of heavily charred, fine-grained French and American oak, for all that toasty, creamy, vanilla-ey goodness. It’s a very generous style, full of luscious fruit and muscular tannin. It’s the kind of wine that leaves you in no doubt - this is good, powerful stuff you’re drinking. Pull it out to treat yourself, and your friends (if they deserve it).

YOU’D PAY $45 full price.

Shiraz 2018

Clare Valley, SA

5 Red Star Halliday Rated Winery

This shiraz speaks loudly of the Clare style - a bit less dense than wines from the neighbouring Barossa, but still deep and concentrated with all the hallmarks of an Aussie’s favourite red.

YOU’D PAY $40 full price.

Shiraz 2018

McLaren Vale, SA

5 Red Star Halliday Rated Winery

Full-bodied and fully displaying a sense of place, this is big bold Vale shiraz through and through. The ripe, assertive palate is an absolute delight to dive into. Plush, juicy berries, ample tannin, fresh acidity, and that distinctive Vale hint of dark chocolate...it’s got all you need and more for some seriously good drinking.

Shiraz 2018

Clare Valley, SA

5 Star Halliday Rated Winery

Clare Valley shiraz is in a class of its own. It benefits from the ballsy, rich-fruited, adrenaline-pumping charms of South Australia, but retains a bright flash of refreshing acidity thanks to the higher altitude. The resultant wine is fruit-forward and plush, but lighter and brighter and full of herbaceous crunch. There’s something for everyone, then, and a full spectrum of flavour. From tangy blueberries and softly scented raspberries, to summery black cherry and juicy plums. It’s tied together by a gentle peppering of tannin and a gentle kiss of oak.

YOU’D PAY $30 full price.

What is a Black Market deal?

Black Market deals are only made possible if we don’t reveal the maker’s brand on site. The wines are the genuine article – absolutely no cleanskins or fake brands, just dangerously good value. You won’t find out what it is until it hits your doorstep, but you won’t regret it. Just keep it on the down low.
