Barossa Valley, SA
94pts Sam Kim | 5 Stars Sam Kim | 5 Star Halliday Rated Winery
2+2=4. Barossa shiraz + talented producer = amazing wine. It really is a simple equation. Maverick Wines knows exactly what they are doing with their fruit and the end result is always a smashing wine. This shiraz has a few years of age on it, which has served to soften it a touch whilst still maintaining that oomph that makes the Barossa style so distinct and popular. The fruit is concentrated in the form of blackcurrant and plum, and there is a touch of earthiness underneath it all. On the finish, it’s a display of fine tannins and length, rounding out an easy-drinking wine that’ll please anyone who digs luscious shiraz.

Shiraz Cabernet 2014
Aged Release | South Aussie Import
Welcome to smooth town! This is powerful Padthaway shiraz and cabernet with soft red and purple fruits, complimented by a few years’ age and a touch of American oak. This wine is drinking at its prime and will reward you with many great winter drinking moments. It is in between medium and full-bodied, with bold plums and cherries and a quite savoury finish. I hate to use the term ‘winter warmer’ but it really is! Match with your choice of braise or Moussaka and you’ll feel toasty while you toast.

94pts Halliday Wine Companion | Boutique Producer | Women in Wine
From the long and cool 2017 vintage comes a South Aussie shiraz that is moving into a drinking window that you’ll want to be a part of. The drinking, that is. It’s floral and full of berries on the nose - all lavender and cherries. The richness on the nose is matched on the palate, with the addition of plum and puckering cranberry. The richness is nestled in a medium-body, so this is the perfect wine for all sorts of dishes. Halliday’s Wine Companion gave it 94 points, all completely deserved - it is great quality wine!

Clare Valley, SA
5 Star Halliday Rated Winery | Mofo Favourite Producer
Clare Valley shiraz is in a class of its own. It benefits from the ballsy, rich-fruited, adrenaline-pumping charms of South Australia, but retains a bright flash of refreshing acidity thanks to the higher altitude. The resultant wine is fruit-forward and plush, but lighter and brighter and full of herbaceous crunch. There’s something for everyone, then, and a full spectrum of flavour. From tangy blueberries and softly scented raspberries, to summery black cherry and juicy plums. It’s tied together by a gentle peppering of tannin and a gentle kiss of oak.

Limestone Coast, SA
95pts Sam Kim | 5 Stars Sam Kim
When looking at a deal at this price, the question could be raised “yes that’s a great deal but what about the quality?” Well, we love it but don’t take our word for it. With a whopping 95 point score, be assured you’ll be just as happy with the quality as you are with the price. Wonderfully ripe and inviting, the perfumed bouquet shows dark fruit intensity combined with violet, vanillin oak, cocoa and subtle spice notes, leading to a concentrated palate that’s opulent and persistent. The wine is powerful and richly textured with excellent fruit purity, seamlessly framed by silky tannins. Drink now, it’s good to go!

Margaret River, WA
94pts James Halliday | 5 Red Star Halliday Rated Winery | Special Value James Halliday
You probably know the deal with Margaret River shiraz by now. It’s that sorta all-things-to-all-people red wine. Silky smooth when well made and sitting right between heavy SA juice and herbal VIC juice in mouthfeel. Everyone at the table can get into it and the bottle’ll be gone quickly. This one shows blueberry, red currant and cherry across the fruit spectrum with secondary characteristics of cola, vanilla, black pepper and cinnamon. 2018 was another exceptional vintage over in Margs and it really shines through in this shiraz. Dive in!
YOU’D PAY $25 full price.
What is a Black Market deal?
Black Market deals are only made possible if we don’t reveal the maker’s brand on site. The wines are the genuine article – absolutely no cleanskins or fake brands, just dangerously good value. You won’t find out what it is until it hits your doorstep, but you won’t regret it. Just keep it on the down low.
