Oh shiraz! Our one and only national obsession and love affair! This collection of shirazes is anything but ordinary. From your special bottle to your weekday quaffer, we’ve got you covered. From elegant and poised, to rich and raucous, there’s a little bit of everything and more.
Here’s some more on each of the included vinos (TWO of each):
Shiraz 2016
Barossa Valley, SA
94pts Sam Kim | 5 Stars Sam Kim | 5 Star James Halliday Rated Winery
These guys knows exactly what they are doing with their fruit and the end result is always a smashing wine. This shiraz has a few years of age on it, which has served to soften it a touch whilst still maintaining that oomph that makes the Barossa style so distinct and popular. The fruit is concentrated in the form of blackcurrant and plum, and there is a touch of earthiness underneath it all. On the finish, it’s a display fine tannins and length, rounding out an easy-drinking wine that’ll please anyone who digs luscious shiraz.

Cotes Du Rhone 2015
Southern Rhône Valley, France
Women in Wine | French Import
The owner and maker of this wine also runs the iconic Châteauneuf‐du‐Pape estate Domaine Pegau with her father. This wine is her negociant wine, a tribute to her friends in and around the Rhône. It’s an 80/20 syrah/grenache blend (from 45 year old vines on average), so feel free to compare and contrast with any such McLaren Vale blends, and spot the differences. There are many. This is a great illustration of where terroir trumps variety. Similar fruits, but spicier, more elegant, finer-boned with more subtlety. Completely unoaked too, which highlights how impressive the fruit structure is. An excellent example of a classic.

Shiraz 2014
Wrattonbully, SA
94pts Sam Kim, 5 Red Star James Halliday Rated Winery, 9/10 Halliday Vintage Rating
In the south-east corner of South Australia, Wrattonbully has the perfect combination of rich red soil, warm summer days, maritime breezes and cool summer nights. Talk about a happy place for grape growing - particularly for shiraz.
This wine hits all the buttons - including the outstanding 2014 vintage along with some bottle maturation, so it’s ripped and ready to go. Ripe plums and macerated blueberry compote on the nose has some underlying dark chocolate notes, with enticing vanilla oak. Sumptous and rich on the palate, blueberry and blackberry fruit are supported by loose-knit tannins and beautifully integrated oak. This is a real treat begging for a big steak or traditional roast. And with this black market deal, it’ll have you coming back for more.
YOU’D PAY $35 full price.
Shiraz 2019
Mount Barker, SA
5 Star James Halliday Rated Winery, Mofo Fave
Great Southern shiraz is usually silky smooth, a bit rich, just over medium-bodied and incredible value. This one is no different and comes from one of our favourite producers down in the bottom left corner of the continent. It’s brambly, a dash spicy, full of cherry and plum, and finished off with a nice even lick of French oak. Perfect everyday drinking with no occasion necessary.
YOU’D PAY $28 full price.
Shiraz 2017
Langhorne Creek, SA
94pts Wine Showcase Magazine, 93pts Winestate Magazine, 93pts Sam Kim, 5 Stars Sam Kim, Double Gold Medal, Gold Medal
We’ve got a mate down in SA who’s so very versatile. He makes wines from vineyards across the state and always delivers the goods. Here’s a shiraz off a single block in Langhorne Creek that’s silky smooth with violets and plum on the nose, trailed by blackberry, spice and a bit of tannin on the palate. It’s plump and juicy, easy to drink, and laced with enough acidity to complement an array of dishes. And if you are left with any doubt, have a glance at its trophy cabinet. Stunning!
YOU’D PAY $27.5 full price.
Shiraz 2018
Margaret River, WA
93pts James Halliday | Special Value James Halliday | Five Red Star Halliday Rated Winery
Although not nearly as lauded as the cabernets of the region, Margaret River shiraz is one of my favourites. Being in the shadow of the cabs and blends, they try harder and over deliver. Over delivering is spot on for this wine, which is the entry-level wine for a well-known five red star Halliday rated winery, that also received 93 points from the Halliday Guide. It’s a big-boned, yet balanced wine, full of forest fruits and spice, while being supported by medium tannin and just enough acid. Already over delivering at full price, it’s mind-blowing in this offer.
YOU’D PAY $22 full price.
What is a Black Market deal?
Black Market deals are only made possible if we don’t reveal the maker’s brand on site. The wines are the genuine article – absolutely no cleanskins or fake brands, just dangerously good value. You won’t find out what it is until it hits your doorstep, but you won’t regret it. Just keep it on the down low.
