Shiraz & Co 46.0 – Black Market Mix
Oh shiraz! Our one and only national obsession and love affair! This collection of shirazes is anything but ordinary. From your special bottle to your weekday quaffer, we’ve got you covered. From elegant and poised, to rich and raucous, there’s a little bit of everything and more.
Here’s some more on each of the included vinos (TWO of each):
Margaret River, SA
Single Vineyard | Fresh to the Fo
It seems to toe the line with absolute grace, the old river of Margaret. With the cooler, ocean breeze giving us the ever-growing-in-popularity peppery, lifted shiraz matching up with some serious body, palate weight and primary fruit gorgeousness. This single vineyard shiraz hails from a mofo favourite and although there’s plenty to go around, a deal like this won’t stick around for long. Intriguing mulberry and blackberry jump out of the glass after just a couple of swirls while the palate generates serious body, structure and non-fruit notes of soft vanilla and cedar, testament to its 15 months of bathing in French oak barriques. A soft and subtle peppery finish wraps up this little number in a nice neat little package which completes the gift from you… to you.

Another ripper from an absolute mofo fave producer. Single vineyard shiraz from Heathcote. Sometimes you don’t want something new - you know the producer, you love the region and it goes with your lifestyle. A great example of our national grape with bright red fruits, clove and other spices. and soft smooth tannins. So soft, so smooth, so delicious.

Langhorne Creek, SA
94pts Wine Showcase Magazine | 93pts Winestate Magazine | 93pts Sam Kim | 5 Stars Sam Kim
We’ve got a mate down in SA who’s so very versatile. He makes wines from vineyards across the state and always delivers the goods. Here’s a shiraz off a single block in Langhorne Creek that’s silky smooth with violets and plum on the nose, trailed by blackberry, spice and a bit of tannin on the palate. It’s plump and juicy, easy to drink, and laced with enough acidity to complement an array of dishes. And if you are left with any doubt, have a glance at its trophy cabinet. Stunning!
YOU’D PAY $27.5 full price.
96pts Limestone Coast Wine Show 2019 | Gold Medal Limestone Coast Wine Show 2019
This shiraz is an absolute POWERHOUSE! A powerhouse of bold shiraz flavour and a wine that our mofos just can’t get enough of, from a producer who has become a solid favourite in the last year or so. The wine is deep and rich on the nose, with plum and a touch of eucalypt. We suggest decanting to get most of these complex aromas. On the palate, it’s full-bodied with drive and all the berries and plums you could want. The wine has seen a bit of new oak, both French and American and shows vanilla and spice. Now five-years-old, the fruit and oak are well integrated and the tannins are fine and abundant.
YOU’D PAY $25 full price.
McLaren Vale, SA
Mofo Fave Producer
From a top McLaren producer whose name is synonymous with the region comes another ripper shiraz. Sourced from a collection of quality vineyards around the Vale, this wine is sure to please the South Aussie shiraz fan. The nose is vibrant and rich, full of blackberries, plums and cedar. It has a firm and robust palate that is asking to be paired with a slow-cooked one-pot winter dish. There’s more blackberries, sitting amongst slightly oak tannins and finishing with crisp acidity. Yum!
YOU’D PAY $25 full price.
Margaret River, SA
93pts James Halliday | Special Value James Halliday | Five Red Star Halliday Rated Winery
Although not nearly as lauded as the cabernets of the region, Margaret River is one of my favourite regions for shiraz. Being in the shadow of the cabs and blends, they try harder and over deliver. Over delivering is spot on for this wine, which is the entry-level wine for a well-known Five Red Star Halliday Rated Winery, that also received 93 points from the Halliday Guide. It’s a big-boned, yet balanced wine, full of forest fruits and spice, while being supported by medium tannin and just enough acid.
YOU’D PAY $22 full price.
What is a Black Market deal?
Black Market deals are only made possible if we don’t reveal the maker’s brand on site. The wines are the genuine article – absolutely no cleanskins or fake brands, just dangerously good value. You won’t find out what it is until it hits your doorstep, but you won’t regret it. Just keep it on the down low.
