Why do we love this case?

Let’s be honest, we know we had you at ‘shiraz’. Hell, this premium Black Market special has always had the red drinkers at Mofo HQ reaching for their wallets. It’s just that good. Boasting a curated collection of some of the country’s most impressive shiraz producers, this case is next level drinkability and top notch dollar value. Whether you enjoy a few bottles today or cellar a couple for celebrations to come, if you’re a shiraz lover this is the mixed case for you.

Each case includes TWO of the following:

Shiraz 2018

Beechworth, VIC

Single Vineyard

This shiraz is from a tiny producer in the northeast Victorian region of Beechworth. The region is known for great quality shiraz from boutique producers, which this certainly is. It’s a complex and herbal wine, more medium-bodied with pretty details than a blockbuster. It has the kind of moreishness that keeps you coming back to the glass and a long, savoury finish.

YOU’D PAY $40 full price.

Shiraz 2019

Clare Valley, SA

Single Vineyard

Clare Valley shiraz...always smooth, always aromatic, always delicious. This one is sourced from one of the most elevated vineyards in the Clare, which provides great drainage and slow, steady ripening. This leads to complexity, concentration and bright varietal fruit in the form of plum and blueberry. There’s also a nice whack of oak here, giving a hint of toastiness and some savoury notes. The perfect balance in an SA shiraz.

YOU’D PAY $30 full price.

Shiraz 2014

Geelong, VIC

This super savoury shiraz is the result of old vines and a lot of know-how. At seven years old, it has moved on from plums and blackberries to more earthy notes of rosemary, cedar and black olive. A deep and complex wine, it is best served with food.

YOU’D PAY $27 full price.

Shiraz 2018

McLaren Vale, SA

Gold CWSA 2020 | Gold CWSA 2019 | Gold San Diego International Wine & Spirits Challenge 2020 | 94pts Winestate Magazine

It doesn’t get much more Vale-y than this. Full-bodied, but not heavy, dark in fruit but expressive and bright. Think plums, black cherries, dark chocolate, licorice and spice. Great balance, great length, smooth on the palate and eminently delicious. One of our favourite producers from South Australia has sourced the grapes off a mate’s vineyard and put the wine into one of their smaller side projects. Simply McLaren Vale, through and through.

YOU’D PAY $27 full price.

Shiraz 2018

McLaren Vale, SA

Vegan Friendly

This is the answer to all of your midweek quaffer conundrums. Want a high quality shiraz from a very well known Halliday Five Star McLaren Vale producer that won’t break the bank? This deal has you covered. Boasting all the dark fleshy plums and blackberries you can poke a stick at, with subtle but lingering black olive and chocolate nuances long after your final gulp. A texture that’s smoother than Barry White and a lingering liveliness on the back palate ensures pleasurable quaffing from now right through the next few years. It’s an easy-going medium-bodied drop with surprising balance, depth of flavour and length.

YOU’D PAY $25 full price.

Shiraz 2017

Clare Valley, SA

Deep, sweetly fruited and moreish shiraz from a Clare favourite of ours. Perfect settle-into-the-sofa wine with a bit of good TV on. There’s blackberries, rasperries and a solid lick of licorice and coffee to add some compelling complexity. It’s soft and supple and even the tannins are determined to let you have a good time. Cellar if you like, but there’s no need, really.

YOU’D PAY $20 full price.

What is a Black Market deal?

Black Market deals are only made possible if we don’t reveal the maker’s brand on site. The wines are the genuine article – absolutely no cleanskins or fake brands, just dangerously good value. You won’t find out what it is until it hits your doorstep, but you won’t regret it. Just keep it on the down low.
