Why do we love this case?

There’s a reason sav blanc has taken the world by storm. For crisp and refreshing, but also massively flavoursome, drinking, it’s just about the best grape for the job. Any naysayers are just jealous their faves taste bland in comparison! And we’ve let a friend come along for the ride by way of a little sem sav blend from Margaret river. From clean minerality to passionfruit punch, there’s the whole spectrum of savvy styles to savour. Plus, there’s an extra bottle of each - so you get to revisit your faves!

Every pack contains TWO bottles each of the following:

Handpicked

Aussie sauvignon blanc does not get much better than this. Terre a Terre treats all of their vines and wines with the same high level of care and expertise. Handpicked and partially fermented in large format oak, this is a wine that speaks of place - Wrattonbully’s limestone soils, and the maker, who is intensely quality-focused. A floral and fresh sweet herb nose lead onto a green apple palate with a touch of tropical fruit. The acid is bound in the fruit and the palate is super-long. I haven’t tasted an Aussie sav as good as this in years.

Bendigo Hills is a project from the esteemed mofo fave, Rock Ferry, who are based in Central Otago, but also source organically farmed grapes in Marlborough. If there’s one thing Marlborough does well, it’s sauvignon blanc. And let me tell you, Bendigo Hills have outdone themselves here. Elegance and freshness are the first two things that come to mind, a slightly herbaceous nose, classic gooseberry and passionfruit dance on the tongue and racy citrus ties the wine together to create a seemingly perfect drop.

Single Vineyard

This South African white is unbelievable value for a very smart wine. This vintage has a splash of semillon which adds freshness and ageability. The dominant sauvignon blanc has all of the tropical and zesty notes that any sauv drinker would like, plus an ocean-side freshness. The vineyards lie only 9km from the sea and maybe I’ve been lured by their marketing, but I swear there’s a bit of sea-spray on the grapes. Either way, it is a holiday in a glass and I know that’s what I need right now.

The King Valley, generally known for its Italian varieties, makes some damn good under-the-radar sauvignon blanc. Twin Valleys produces this one that is loaded with gooseberries, tropical fruits and minerality. The acid line isn't too overwhelming, so you might find yourself staring at an empty bottle before you know what happened. Don't worry, we won't tell.

Mofo Fave

Few wines are quite so shamelessly smashable as a sem-sav blanc blend. And this one by Margaret River superstar producer Higher Plane seems to be hell-bent on topping the pile. Semillon brings drive and freshness, with citrus and delicate herbs. The savvy brings passionfruit, nashi pear and mouthwateringly juicy lime flavours. The result is a combo that’ll keep you enchanted from first sniff to last sip.

New to the 'Fo

Here’s one we weren’t meant to get. One of the airlines had snatched up this delicious wine, but then of course didn’t need it. So we stepped in and grabbed it for our mofos. It’s sauv blanc from Gascogne, a region in southwest France that borders upon Spain and the Atlantic. It’s perhaps most famous for being the home of Cyrano de Bergerac and d’Artagnan, but we’re here today for the wine. There’s pears, peaches and some flintiness on the nose. On the palate it is a completely dry wine, but has a certain richness with hints of honey, compote and some citrus to contrast. It’s super lively with a nice balance of fruit sweetness (yet in a dry wine) and minerality. Alexandre Dumas would be enthralled.
