5 star Halliday rated winery

It's been given the thumbs up from Halliday, even plastered with a 'special value award' as well as a whopping 95points. Described by the man himself as "From the estate's two vineyards in Coonawarra and Wrattonbully that combine synergistically to dance around maypoles of grainy acidity and slinky lime juice, 6g/l of residual sugar judged to perfection." Translation = Try a bottle of magic.

Huon Hooke

Skilly Valley, a subregion on the western side of Clare, enjoys just the same elevation, and some slightly different solis of sandy clay-loam over a broken quartz. This gives subtly different nuances to the wine, compared with other Clare bottles. There are bright aromas of orange blossom and cool minerality on the nose, followed by a sweetly peachy and tropical fruit rich palate. If this sounds like a recipe for flabbiness, think again. The acidity here is electric, leaving you pleasantly refreshed with every sip.
