Now exclusive to your cellar, this riesling never fails to impress. It fills us with cheer each year. The brand new ’17 brings the usual citrus and floral notes, but matches vibrant acid to a mouthfilling fruit orchestra - Mount Barker fruit brings the less expected pear and mandarin, along with impressive minerality. It’s a continuation of a long line of successes that keeps us coming back for more.

This is a fresh, jubilant Watervale riesling with all the juicy Jonagold apple crunch, meyer lemon, a burst of pink grapefruit dipped in raw sugar as you push the spoon in, and the unexpected delight of jasmine as you’re walking along, lost in thought. Everything harmonious, approachable, simple on the surface but as deep as you like because nothing’s out of place. Like looking at yourself in a mirror reflecting into a mirror, it’s endless purity. Even if you’re not that pure, this will set you on the path.

This is made by Peter Treloar, a super amazing rizza producer who actually works a fair bit with us on our collaboration wines. You’ll typically look for some beautiful citrus – lots of lovely lime, lemon, perhaps some melon character too. Just some beautiful layers and it smells like springtime.

To me, this wine seems to be on the cusp of hitting that teenage dip stage. It’s pure and precise but quite generous at the same time, showing some hints at the development that’ll happen over the coming decade or two. Seems simple on initial approach: lime curd, Granny Smith apples and Packham pears. A little sulphury to start, with a very tightly wound but fleshy palate. The sulphur reminds me of German riesling, how it adds another dimension of complexity, and then dissipates like a morning river mist. The riesling itself is anything but German. Powerful and rich, I’d want to say something about minerality, but I know Ron would scoff. Regardless, reminds me of wet slate and salty shells - all of which are made up of minerals.

Blossomy, with that limestone-rubbed apple and Meyer lemon pith that screams Clare, and extra notes of musk and jasmine. It’s pretty close to bone dry (only a couple of grams of residual sugar) and only 12% alcohol, thanks to a mild summer with cool nights. Which means it’s got lovely weight, a bit of spice and excellent balance. Quintessential riesling for now or later.

It’s all Meyer lemon, waxy grapefruit, green apple and a little Vietnamese basil tweak. It’s fine, incisive, clear and definite, and ageworthy. Precise, even. I get excited about Fanny every year, but we think this year’s the one. Wineries around Clare are calling 2017 the best vintage since 2012, and they may be right. 2002, 2005, 2012, 2015, 2017... a roll call of saliva-inspiring rieslings just rolled through my head. So yes, get excited. And yes, again, we’re biased. But we do have a killer returns policy if you disagree.
