The owner and maker of this wine also runs the iconic Châteauneuf‐du‐Pape estate Domaine Pegau with her father. This wine is her negociant wine, a tribute to her friends in and around the Rhône. It’s an 80/20 syrah/grenache blend (from 45 year old vines on average), so feel free to compare and contrast with any such McLaren Vale blends, and spot the differences. There are many. This is a great illustration of where terroir trumps variety. Similar fruits, but spicier, more elegant, finer-boned with more subtlety. Completely unoaked too, which highlights how impressive the fruit structure is. An excellent example of a classic.

Straight from the Rhône Valley in France comes this spicy mix of syrah and grenache. Ripe and juicy red-berry goodness, this is a Rhone that looks the part AND tastes the part! This delicious wine is a stunning interplay between the two grapes - syrah provides attractive, red-berry fruit aromatics and a finely polished tannic structure, while the grenache lends a helping hand with a juicy ripeness and generous texture. A dash of pepper and an underline of spice will remind you that yes, indeed you are drinking Old World, and drinking well. Great drinking.

The famous Mount Ventoux (a famous leg of the Tour de France) is where this one is from. The area produces wines expressive, rich and elegant, and this particular wine is from soil rich in limestone, adding a vibrancy to the fruit. The wine doesn't see any time on oak, so all of the tannin is from the perfectly ripe berries. It's a fruity wine, but with loads of spice and texture to enjoy.
