Saint-Préfert is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year with an incredible release of wines, wines that truly start in the vineyard. The soils are stony, porous and filtering, allowing the vines to root deeply in clay. With such extreme temperatures in the Rhône, these deep roots are vital to accessing water, resulting in grapes of immense intensity and richness. This ‘Charles Giraud’ Collection CdP is the jewel in the crown of Saint-Préfert’s range. A rare and special wine that Rhône aficionado and critic Jeb Dunnuck graced with a perfect 100 point score.

Here is what Matt Walls from Decanter Magazine had to say about this spectacular wine: "This is full of energy, very concentrated, vibrant and intense. It has mouthcoating, fully ripe berry fruit with tannins that are like tiny teeth, they really sink in and grip you like a terrier. It’s powerful, focussed and very long with vibrancy, freshness, intensity and texture, coupled with a deeply saline and mineral drive. The oak isn't excessive, it's required, making it deeply spicy, peppery and expressive. From 30-year-old vines in the granitic quarter of Les Reynards, planted at 6,000 vines per hectare, yielding 20hl/ha. No destemming, fermented with indigenous yeasts and aged for a year in new 400l barrels."

At Domaine des Bosquets, Julien Brechet is exploring single varieties from single vineyards, something that isn’t so common in Gigondas. Le Lieu Dit, the vineyard source for this wine, is planted fully to grenache. Julien has been making this wine since 2009, always proud of the unique expression of terroir that it provides. It’s complex with black cherry and raspberry supported by more bitter and medicinal elements like blood orange and licorice. Despite the wines big and rich nature, it’s quite structured with a long and agile finish. Finesse and largesse don’t often fit together so naturally.
