Château de la Clapière Cru Classé Rosé 2020
Strawberry
Musk
Minerally
Light-bodied
Bright
Delicate

Among the great many estates producing decent rosé in Provence, there is an elite group of 18 Cru Classé makers that constitute the cream of the crop. These are the best of the best, where Provence hangs its pretty pink hat. This one, made of a classic blend of cinsault, grenache and syrah, is equal parts undemanding and interesting. It’s delicately charming, with gentle aromas of tropical fruits, sage and mountainous Mediterranean minerality, finishing with a dash of grenadine sweetness and an orange pith twist. It’s the perfect pairing for anything involving sunshine.

The Fabre family would make great neighbours - for 17 generations, they have produced wine on their spectacular property near the coast in Provence. Wow! That’s a lot of years and a lot of know-how. This rosé, led by the always elegant cinsault and supported by grenache and syrah is bright and juicy, with a lush mid-palate and a touch of raspberry, with saline minerality. If it’s light and lovely, racy and refreshing you’re after - this is the wine.

Delicate

This is a light-footed, polished and fruit-forward style of Provence rosé. Strawberries and cream, raspberry jubes, orange zest. Light and refreshing with a savoury elegance. And shaped a bit like a barbell, so you could get some squats in while you’re hard at it.

Chateau St Honoré La Londe Rosé 2020
Strawberry
Lemon
Floral
Light-bodied
Bright
Elegant

This is pretty bold for a Provence rosé. Strawberry, cherry and lemon blossom, with structural acidity plus more fruit and texture than the usual suspects. It also has distinct minerality that must surely come from the vineyards being closer to the seaside, with more schist-type soils (shelly fossils and the like, you know). All that power and distinction, but it still manages to be one of the prettiest things this side of... well, the solar system I guess.

Cuvée Les 3 Terroirs Rosé 2020
Cherry

Ethereal

This rosé is soft, plush and soothing. There’s more than a hint of raspberry in the mix, alongside strawberries and cranberries with a good dollop of cream on top. It smells like warm summer air, though the palate’s coolly refreshing. Featuring a touch less spice than some of the others, this is a prime candidate to drink alone, with just good conversation to accompany.

Dedicace Rosé 2020
Grapefruit
Cranberry
Strawberry
Light-bodied

Concentrated

This one’s bright as a star. It’s citrussy, and reminds me more than a touch of Orangina, though obviously without the bubbles. There’s a hint of pepperiness on the finish, and a cranberry tang next to luscious ripe strawberries. Light, easy, and devilishly quaffable. C’est si bon!
