Why do we love this case?

We hardly need to put premium wines on site before they sell out. What can we say? You Mofos just love them, and when the wines and pricing are this good, who can blame you? Mofos, say hello to the latest and greatest premium reds mixed pack. You can thank us later.

Each pack contains ONE bottle of each of the following:

South African Import

This Rall Red is a serious and structured style with a couple of years in bottle to settle into its stride. There’s a charmingly rustic quality on display. It’s rich and earthy, with red and black fruit bubbling up from undertones of black pepper and exotic spice. It’d be lost without some refreshing acidity, but that is happily delivered in spades. If you love top-notch wine, but can’t be doing with pretence, this is for you. Just honestly brilliant winemaking and great drinking.

As the sun sets, it's time to bring on Nightfall! Clear evenings and a warm summer in Coonawarra allowed the grapes to be concentrated deep with flavour and sparked an early April harvest. With a mix of cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc and merlot, the grapes were fermented separately in stainless steel vessels before being transferred into French and American oak to mature for 20 months. Dark purple with a dense palate of spiced cherry and ripe blackcurrant, this wine is well balanced with toasted bread and sweet vanilla honey notes. Drink now or let it age in your cellar for a few years. A great wine to go in the collection!

Halliday Five Star Producer

It seems a bit idiosyncratic to name an old vine wine 'Futures', but we're in no position to question what goes on at Haselgrove. As vines age, the yield naturally declines meaning fewer grapes are getting more of the share of nutrient goodness from the rich soils. This is a wine that through those aged vines gained swathes of complexity and intrigue. Built to last the test of time long after bottling, its fragrant and savoury notes will continue to integrate and build utter individuality. Look forward to black pepper, subtle liquorice and anise layered over classic black fruit. If you must open a bottle in the next year or so (and we don’t blame you if you do) treat it to a decant so as to release and relax those powerful components.

2nd Best Cabernet IWC VIENNA 2020
Five Star Halliday Rated Winery

If you love the ‘intensity dial’ on your cabernet turned right up. If you demand relentlessly ripe fruit, impressively integrated oak and a drastic discount to boot, then we highly recommend you treat yourself to this super deal. Pirramimma’s ‘Ironstone’ cabernet from the warm 2016 vintage enlivens the senses from its plush fruit profile of blackberry, blueberry and blackcurrant all the way through to its intriguing secondary characteristics of mint, black olive and bramble. Neatly framed thanks to 26 relaxing months (25% of which was brand spanking new) in French oak adding layers of cedar and tobacco leaf complexity on the finish, this is a complete cabernet from the Vale. It will sit very nicely amongst your collection of ‘special occasion’ wines, yet is affordable enough to break out mid week should you find yourself in good company alongside a big bold roast. Enjoy!

Red Winemaker of the Year IWC 2018
Argentine Wine Producer Trophy IWSC 2017

Mendoza’s master of malbec, Hevré J Fabre, returns with none other than his flagship wine. Aged in 100% new French oak, this is not for the faint-hearted - not quite a tooth-tinting tannin titan but not meek, either. Tannins are full and drying, sure, but also soft and smooth, tamed by a dark-fruited core of berries, cocoa and balancing acidity. This is overlaid with pretty florals and herbaceousness that only seem to add to its overall density and power. It certainly does remind you that Fabre’s roots are from Bordeaux - a nod to the malbec-based black wines of Cahors. Savoury through and through but rounded out by distinctively punchy high altitude Mendoza fruit. Approachable, but much to think about, too. Over a fat steak, of course.

First Families of Wine
Single Vineyard

The hits keep coming. We’re loving our special access to the museum of wines at Howard Park. This shiraz is from 2014, sourced entirely off a single vineyard in Wilyabrup and destined for two more decades of vibrant life should you have the restraint to lay it down. With a score of 96 points from James Halliday, here’s a wine that sits just above medium-bodied with fruit density that’s more in line with compote than jam. The palate is silky smooth and secondary characteristics of ginger, anise and pepper are just starting to pop out and add elegance. As a complete package, it’s just so tidy with not a hair out of place. Absolutely splendid!
