Why do we love this case?

Our Head Wine Buyer John truly made some magic with this impressive pack of European reds. On the lighter end of the pack there are a couple of gamay-based wines for cracking-n-smashing, then on the heavier-end there’s a Valpolicella! Hell yes! There’s also Chianti and Rhône Valley in the mix, regions that consistently sell well, so people must love them. Thanks John for this stunning box of wine.

Each pack contains ONE bottle of the following:

Corte Lavel Amarone della Vapolicella 2013
Allspice
Blackberry
Black Cherry
Full-bodied
Chalky
Bold

Vineyards owned by the Campedelli family, originally part of the Marion estate, but sold in the 90’s as they originally believed that the site was too cold for quality Valpol! Move forward to 2017 and due to the effects of global warming the vineyard is now producing amazing fruit. Purchased back and now made as a separate wine under Corte Lavel label, this is a very elegant fresh style of Valpolicella with great natural acidity. Only made from the local grapes corvina, rondinella, molinari and corvione.

Clos Saouma Inopia Grenache Blend 2015
Black Cherry
Raspberry
Minerally
Full-bodied
Bright
Concentrated

This wine is grenache dominant with syrah, mourvèdre and secret ingredients (read: we don't know!). Made with minimal intervention - whole bunch ferments, no pump overs or punch downs, then pressed to cement eggs, foudre and 500L barrels to complete ferment. The wine is then not touched until bottling after 18 months elevage. Lots of sweet spice, herb and aniseed, stony minerality underpinning fruit weight. Less is more.

Clos de la Bonnette Collines Rhodaniennes Shiraz 2018
Medium-bodied
Bright
Deep

This Clos (walled vineyard) is located on the heights of Ampuis, bordering Côte Rotie with vines over 40 years old. Vineyards worked according to organise principals and certified ECOCERT. The vine age bring complexity and the low-inputs farming lets the pure fruit shine. A medium-bodied, very Euro-style is what you'll find in this wine - elegance and perfume, along with concentrated fruit, but in a balanced and easy way - not overpowering richness or alcohol here.

Les Vignerons Saint Pourcain La Ficelle Gamay Noir 2018
Medium-bodied
Bright
Deep

30 years ago before the region was even AOC, the co-operative of Saint Pourcain ‘borrowed’ the idea from Mouton Rothschild of launching this wine with a new label each year. In keeping with the approachable nature of this wine it’s always a cartoonist invited to paint the label. La Ficelle means ‘the string’. Story goes that the barkeep would use a knotted string to dip into a patrons flagon to see how much wine they had enjoyed before the bill. This wine is a blend of gamay and pinot noir and a classic ‘Vin de Soif’, to be enjoyed with friends over dinner. Think village Beaujolais with a touch more structure.
