Why do we love this case?

If ever there was a grape capable of magic, it’s pinot noir. Little wonder it’s key to many of the most expensive wines in the world. Luckily, there’s none of that pomposity here. Here’s a mix covering some of the very best regions in the world. From perfumed and pretty to dark and sexy, there’s something for every occasion and every food pairing.

Every case contains ONE bottle of the following:

Organic

Bendigo Hills is the semi-arid subregion of Central Otago, with north facing terraced slopes, famous for growing some of the region’s finest pinot noir. Planted in 2003, The Cob Cottage vineyard is certified organic, where the grapes are allowed to reach their prime ripeness before being handpicked and fermented. The region is famous for its deep and powerful pinots, and this is no exception. The wine is aged for a year in 25% new French oak, which adds texture and a few notes of cedar to the fruit profile of cherries, sour plums and cranberries that abound in the wine. There is also a very alluring mushroom note that is present on the nose and long, complex finish. So much to love in this wine- give it some air and it’ll only get better.

Carlei Green Vineyards Cuvée Stephen Thomson Pinot Noir 2019
Allspice
Black Cherry
Prunes
Medium-bodied
Bright
Concentrated

Carlei sources three different pinot clones from Green Vineyards in the Yarra, whole berry fermenting them separately. The batches are then aged in a mix of old and new French oak for a year before a final blending. The final product is opulent on the nose with ripe strawberries and cherries paired with truffle and forest floor. The velvety palate carries its acid well and hints at even greater developments after a few years of age, when more earthy characteristics will peek through.

Yarra Valley pinot noir has become an international phenomenon in the past 20 years. Sunshine Creek have recognised just how well this wine travels across the globe, and have made this wine in a more ‘international’ style. So what does that mean? It’s silky smooth, a little fuller in fruit (think black cherries and strawberries) and buttressed with a hints of earthiness and cola. This isn’t sitting on the funky end of the pinot spectrum, but rather the elegant end. Easy drinking and ultimately enjoyable - something that appeals in every corner of the world.

MacArthur Ridge is a 20-year old vineyard with exceptional drainage located just north of Alexandra and between the Mata-Au and Manuherikia Rivers in Central Otago. Southern Tor references a hilly outcrop towards the south end of the vineyard, the source for this wine. The grapes were harvested by hand and even after seven years, exhibit bright primary fruit characters in the wine. Think plums, cherries and strawberries. Of course those secondary notes have also sprung forward with a bit of char, dried herbs and mushrooms. There’s a nice mineral line as well, finishing off what is a complete expression of Otago pinot with some age on it.

Mofo Fave

2021 proved to be a strong vintage in Tasmania; quantities were up on 2020 and quality was strong across the board. And with Tassie pinot being in such high demand, we were quite chuffed to get our hands on this drop from Riversdale located in Apple Isle. It’s quite elegant with a bit of earthiness behind the cherry and strawberry fruit profile. Up front you can taste some bramble drawn from partial whole bunch pressing, but that soon gives way to the silky palate and gently spiced finish. We’ve got access to a decent amount of this wine, but Tassie pinot tends to fly off the shelf.
