Why do we love this case?

If ever there was a grape capable of magic, it’s pinot noir. Little wonder it’s key to many of the most expensive wines in the world. Luckily, there’s none of that pomposity here. Here’s a mix covering some of the very best regions in the world. From perfumed and pretty to dark and sexy, there’s something for every occasion and every food pairing.

The bottles pictured here do not necessarily reflect the bottle shapes or closures that will be included in this pack. The Vinomofo team is working from home, to help fight against COVID-19 and keep staff safe, so all that cool stuff we use to make things look pretty is back at the office. We reckon that, so long as the wine is good (and it is!) it doesn’t matter too much under the circumstances. Hope you agree!

Every case contains TWO of each of the following:

Killer Vintage
Mofo Fave

Sergio Carlei sources three different pinot clones for this wine from a little vineyard in the Yarra, whole-berry fermenting them separately. The batches are then aged in a mix of old and new French oak for a year before a final blending. The final product is opulent on the nose with rips strawberries and cherries paired with truffle and forest floor. The velvety palate carries its acid well and hints at even greater developments after a few years of age, when more earthy characteristics will peek through. But no one’s forcing you to wait that long.

Marlborough pinot noir - that wine that those in the know know all about. This one from Spy Valley is handpicked from separate vineyard blocks, fermented in individual vats and blended up before bottling. This allows for the winemaker to see how each parcel develops before putting together the perfect amalgamation in the bottle. On the nose, there’s vibrant fruit, cocoa and cooking spices. The palate, supported by fine-grained tannins, is all raspberry, strawberry and herbs. There’s a touch of oak for structure, but it’s subtle. All in all, an excellent mesh of wine.

4.5 stars by Wine Orbit

The team at Matahiwi can get very serious about wines. But they also have a fun side. This pinot is from that fun side. It's all ripe cherries and plums with a bit of spicy oak. They source the grapes from several different low-yielding vineyards in Wairarapa, ferment them in separate batches, then blend before bottling to achieve they exact style they are after - bright, mouth-filling and fresh. This is pinot to drink any night (or day) of the week.

It wasn’t long ago that we stocked the 2018 of Tomich Hill's Hilltop pinot noir, and since the response to the wine was so good, we thought, why wait? Tomich Hill works across varieties and are loved for both their reds and whites. This is a young wine, but it is looking polished and together. It has the classic basket of fruit that is common to Hills pinot - light berries, ripe cherries and a few plums. Not as light as the Yarra and not as dark as Otago - it’s the mama bear of pinots and we think you’re going to like it.

Montsable brings us a pinot noir from the foothills of the Haute Valle Limoux, or upper valley of Limoux, a great cool climate site for slow ripening and vibrant acidity. The grapes are gently pressed and fermented before a small percentage of the wine spends a few months in new French Oak. This wine is light-bodied and elegant with a floral nose and palate of cherries and strawberries. It's exactly what one looks for in pinot, especially from the south of France.

This pinot by Rob Dolan inspires a love/hate relationship in me. I love the bright juicy fruit with the gentle earthiness and soft, easy tannin. I hate how quickly the bottle disappears. Be warned, mofo. You will definitely notice your friends swinging by more often once they’ve quaffed a glass or two of this with you. It’s just deliciously easy drinking, and made by a living Yarra legend. Bright cherries and strawberries, with just a sparkle of tannin for shape. It’s not Grand Cru Burgundy, it’s way more yummy.
