Carlei Green Vineyards Cuvée Stephen Thomson Pinot Noir 2019
Allspice
Black Cherry
Prunes
Medium-bodied
Bright
Concentrated

Carlei sources three different pinot clones from Green Vineyards in the Yarra, whole berry fermenting them separately. The batches are then aged in a mix of old and new French oak for a year before a final blending. The final product is opulent on the nose with ripe strawberries and cherries paired with truffle and forest floor. The velvety palate carries its acid well and hints at even greater developments after a few years of age, when more earthy characteristics will peek through.

Domaine Lemoule Coulanges La Vineuse Pinot Noir 2019

Single Vineyard
French Import

This is Domaine Lemoule's pinot noir which is hand-harvested off a southeast facing slope of limestone, clay and marl. The grapes are partially destemmed and gently pressed for fermentation. Steel tanks are used for ageing to preserve the fruit and minimal filtration takes place before bottling. Essentially, Domaine Lemoule is chasing purity of fruit. Expect cherry, plum and strawberry, a reasonably full mouthfeel, and light tannin. Magnifique!

‘Tres vielle’ indeed! These vines are 80 years old at least, giving a Beaujolais of incredible depth and sinew. There is a touch of the classic bubblegum (from carbonic maceration), but it’s not the main event here with red and dark fruits, spice and a great texture. It’s full of character with the structure for ageing, too. It’s been raised in cement for eight months, saving it from unnecessary oakiness, but allowing it to settle into its stride.

SWNZ accredited - sustainably grown

Vegan Friendly

This young pinot is simply delicious - an easy and charming wine. Handpicked from Loveblock’s organically-farmed estate, which is SWNZ accredited, each clone was picked at optimal ripeness to contribute to a harmonious blend. Without boring you with facts about clones, it’s clear they’ve made some magic- from the nose through to the palate that both show vibrant red fruit, floral notes and savoury hints. The wine saw 50% old oak that has not impacted the fruit, but added a lovely texture.

2020 was a challenging vintage in Tasmania; not in terms of quality but in terms of quantity. The wines look fantastic across all varieties. Unfortunately there just isn’t a huge volume of them. And with Tassie pinot being in such high demand, we were quite chuffed to get our hands on this drop made by Riversdale Estate out of the Coal River Valley. It’s quite elegant with a bit of earthiness behind the cherry and strawberry fruit profile. Up front you can taste some bramble drawn from partial whole bunch pressing, but that soon gives way to the silky palate and gently spiced finish.

We’ve seen a couple of vintages of this delicious pinot from Tomich and are stoked to have it back. Tomich works across varieties and are loved for both their reds and whites. This is a young wine, but it is looking polished and together. It has the classic basket of fruit that is common to Hills pinot - light berries, ripe cherries and a hint of bubblegum even. Not as light as the Yarra and not as dark as Otago - it’s the mama bear of pinots and we think you’re going to like it.
