Pinot & Friend 5.0 – Black Market Mix
This pinot pack lives up to its name - packed full of some serious good gear that’s just begging to be enjoyed. We’ve provided the most important ingredient - the wine - so all you need to do is just add friends, your favourite meal - and enjoy!
Each case contains TWO bottles of each of the following:
Pinot Noir 2019
Yarra Valley, SA
This well-known Victorian producer sources three different pinot clones from a little vineyard in the Yarra, whole-berry fermenting them separately. The batches are then aged in a mix of old and new French oak for a year before a final blending. The final wine is opulent on the nose with ripe strawberries and cherries paired with truffle and forest floor. The velvety palate carries its acid well and hints at even greater developments after a few years of age, when more earthy characteristics will peek through.

Pinot Noir 2018

Get this, mofos. This wine has been matured in handmade Florentine terracotta amphorae. In an effort to innovate, these guys have looked to the past, ditched the oak, and made a wine like it’s 600 BC. Doing so preserves all the gorgeous fruit intensity of pinot, saving it from being smothered by overly vanilla-ey oak abuse. It matures in much the same way though, being airtight, it’s not an oxidative process. The result is a cherry-rich, sweetly spiced pinot that’s exploding with character and nuances that you may well have missed out on otherwise.

Pinot Noir 2018
Adelaide Hills, SA
The high and winding Adelaide Hills are the perfect place for growing pinot noir - a combination of altitude and diverse vineyard aspects make for elegant and complex wines. This is a great example of classic Hills pinot - showing off ripe cherry and raspberry fruits, floral notes and a firm, but graceful body.

Pinot Noir Syrah 2018
Adelaide Hills, SA
92pts Sam Kim | 4.5 Stars Sam Kim
Everyone knows that the Adelaide Hills region makes ripper pinot noir. But those in-the-know, know that they also excel at cool climate, spicy syrah. In this case, the producer has combined the two, to make a vibrantly wonderful blend. The savouriness from pinot has been blended with the spiciness from syrah, the elegance of the former and the depth of the latter. The wine has been aged for over a year in barrel before blending and is ready to go. Light to medium-bodied, full of both bright and brooding fruit and a long and savoury finish.

Pinot Noir 2020
Yarra Valley, VIC
5 Star Halliday Rated Winery
This is a great wine. I love the bright juicy fruit with the gentle earthiness and soft, easy tannin. You will definitely notice your friends swinging by more often once they’ve quaffed a glass or two of this with you. It’s just deliciously easy drinking, and made by a living Yarra legend. Bright cherries and strawberries, with just a sparkle of tannin for shape. It’s not Grand Cru Burgundy, it’s way more yummy.
YOU’D PAY $24 full price.
What is a Black Market deal?
Black Market deals are only made possible if we don’t reveal the maker’s brand on site. The wines are the genuine article – absolutely no cleanskins or fake brands, just dangerously good value. You won’t find out what it is until it hits your doorstep, but you won’t regret it. Just keep it on the down low.
