“We’ve got here a Barbera, so it’s Barbera D’asti and we’re really excited about bringing this producer into the country as they’ve never been imported to Australia. It has three 95 point reviews and is from the exceptional, exceptional 2016 vintage and the good thing about Barbera is it’s such a versatile style. It has the richness of say a grenache or even a cooler climate shiraz, but it can stretch the breadth of the Australian drinker if we can put it that way.” "Dark, rich, ripe fruit with red berries, currants and beautiful cleansing acidity. So It is a riper style of wine, it is rich and it has a lot of up front fruit but it also has some beautiful acidity to cleanse the palate.” - John, Mofo Wine Buyer

This Langhe nebbiolo is the traditional red wine of the Piedmont region. Michael Garner and Andrea Briccarello gave this vino 94 and 93 points apiece thanks to a nose that smacks of red berries, vanilla and cinnamon. It’s smoky, it’s spicy and it’s lengthier than a Melbourne Demons premiership drought with intense, juicy flavours of black fruits. If you’re itchin’ for an Italian vino, scratch yourself the right way with a well-structured, super tasty nebbiolo.

“For me, one of the best value wines we’ve ever not only imported, but we’ve ever sold. A cracking vintage. Widely considered as being in the Top 10 best producers in all of Piedmont so for us to have this is a massive deal.” “So we’re not talking a really big rustic, oaky style of wine. It’s a little more modern and softer and wines from Langhe are a lot more approachable. And when we’re talking about Barolos, it’s all about the sheer power of the Nebbiolo grape.” – Karel, Mofo Wine Buyer.

“Italian reds are my favourite so I could sit here and rave about them all day. It’s kind of rustic. Like, if you think of Italian wine and Italian people they’re quite vivacious and quite lively and there’s that really earth, rustic element to them as well, and I find that in the tannins. But Barbera isn’t an overly tannic wine.” “I wouldn’t eat anything too fancy with it, just a good old risotto or something that you’d expect if you walked into a little house in the hills in Italy and nonna’s been in there making pasta and having belly laughs and enjoying tons of good food.” – Summa, Mofo Mumma

This dolcetto comes from the Diana d’Alba DOCG in Piemonte, Italy. Dolcetto is known and loved for its lower acidity, meaning it’s a wine to be enjoyed young which is absolutely no problem at all – the sooner the better, we always say. This particular dolcetto, from the Manzone Giovanni crew, is a super well-balanced vino with notes of blackberries, cherries, violets and cloves. It’s fresh and fruity, and once again, something to get into over the next two or three years. It’s a pretty meaty vino, so try it with some serious hunks of rich, red meat or hard cheese.
