New Wave Aussies 2.0
- Mixed

New Wave and Mighty! Here is a pack of six Aussie wines that range from smashable to esoteric. From a collection of tiny producers that make wines as a side-hustle, for the love of the grape and the joy that it brings. It’s a great little roadtrip from South Australia over to Victoria, showing off some seriously fun wines from both sides of the border. All the colours of the rainbow, all of the the fruits of the fruit salad. You will not be bored!
Each case contains ONE bottle of:

The Cloudbreak range (made by Tomich) has had a makeover and how good does it look? It's not only the stubby bottle and sleek black and white label that are a step up - but the wine too. My notes say "super-fun, but with depth". It's a blend of 90% pinot noir 5% shiraz and 5% gewürztraminer - a bit more attitude than a straight pinot with spice from shiraz and a bit of exotic something-something from the gewürz. Well done Tomich - this is rockin!

This is the kind of low-intervention fizz that we like to drink. Handled minimally, but with the care and understanding that comes from winemaker James Lance's years of experience making some of the Yarra's best pinot and chardonnay. Made in the 'methode rurale' (aka pétillant naturel), which is the simplest way to make a sparkling wine, the wine has seen 20 months on lees and was disgorged. Drinks more like a super fresh blanc de blancs of Champagne method than your usual divisive pét nat, and we're more than ok with that!

Nick Dugmore is the winemaker behind The Stoke - a new-wave take on the remote region of Kangaroo Island. According to Duggie, he went to KI as the first stop on a Australia-wide surfing trip in 2008, and the rest of the itinerary is still awaiting completion! KI is a mediterranean region with sea breezes perfect for grape-growing with only 30 vineyards. His fresh 2020 rosé is made from tempranillo and is ready to delight.

From one of the most famous vineyards in the Yarra Valley, Willowlake, and the sauv blanc master, Dave Chatfield from Out of Step. Dave does a bit more with the fruit, giving it time in oak and some lees stirring. You get texture, structure, length and power to carry the variety’s typical bright fruit flavours.

Kin, based in the Adelaide Hills is a one-woman winemaking sensation Bec Dugmore (yep, Duggie's wife). After years of working for global wine companies, she has slowed down and focuses on textural whites from the Hills. A touch of oak, a bit of lees stirring and a lot of love make for delicious wines.

According to their website, Troy Jones and Behn Payten are "allegedly the only two (literate) students to graduate Healesville High School". A visit to their website, or better still, their Yarra Valley cellar door will have you immersed in their irreverent world of super tasty wines and rad merchandise to go with it. As for this sangio, all the work is done in the (single) vineyard and the juice is handled with minimal intervention through the fermentation process and into the bottle. Expect raspberries, juniper, dried herbs and a bit of funk.
