Why do we love this case?

We all have those moments of indecisiveness. What to drink? Red. Yes. But, what am I in the mood for? A juicy pinot ? A winter warmer shiraz? A classic dolcetto from Piemonte? And I’ve always wanted to try a Tempranillo that  awakens your senses from first to last glass...

Fear not, mofo. This pack of mixed reds contains all the above, no need to make hard decisions here. We’ve made them for you, and (not to toot our own horn) but they’re good.

Each case contains ONE bottle of the following:

Old Vine

This blend of grenache shiraz shows us what McLaren Vale is capable of producing, and certainly what Thistledown is capable of producing! Starting from the bush trained old vines, the grenache fruit produces low yielding, intense fruit. Once picking commences, it's done gently and carefully to ensure only the best grapes are picked. Then, we get to the winemakers magic, ageing in concrete or french barrels to create that underlying oak flavour. And what's the finished result? A wonderfully vibrant and aromatic wine, featuring all manner of red and black fruits, raspberry, blackcurrant and a touch of allspice.

St Johns Brook have a vineyard established in 1998, and work with close-to-organic, sustainable practices. The quality of the fruit shines through in their wines, particularly this reserve shiraz. There are firm dark fruits, like plums and blackberries, with a medium body and a softness in texture. The wine has seen 14 months in 50% new French and Hungarian oak providing it with beautiful chocolate and coffee notes, and abundant tannins.

5 red star Halliday rated winery

Botham Merrill Willis is a successful partnership between premier winemaker Geoff Merrill and cricketing legends Sir Ian Botham and Bob Willis. Because who wouldn’t want a knight on their side when they go into battle with the rest of the Vale (and Coonawarra, to boot)? Well, let the cricketing puns be unleashed! Without a hint of spin, this seven year old cabernet has a decent innings left in it. A full century is doubtful but a good start is ensured thanks to Geoff’s deft touch. All the classic dark berry and blackcurrant that exude cabernet at large, plus distinctive espresso and black olive notes that scream McLaren Vale, despite there being a generous amount (45%) of Coonawarra cab in here. Rounded out with Mint Slice chocolate, it's a very more-ish wine for any and every time cheese is on the table. I could spin things further but I wouldn’t want to make a silly point. So I guess that’s stumps.

On the Plan B wines website, it states 'free range wines that are free of corporate taint'. I like it. I also like tempranillo from cool climates likes Geographe in WA, as cool nights are crucial for the variety to retain freshness, which balances out all of that juicy fruit. Would you believe the wine is made with a splash of viognier and it's all the better for the inclusion, it's medium-bodied with a touch of spice and heaps of red fruit, this wine is a winner with or without food.

Single Vineyard

With its hillside location, Pinot Noir at Siding Hill enjoys a sunny aspect, good drainage and all the best bits that New Zealand’s Marlborough region has to offer - cool nights and warm days - perfect for acid retention. Along with that freshness is a palate of vibrant dark cherry and plum with plenty of depth. It’s fleshy and floral with a nice touch of brambly undergrowth. Add French oak to the mix and you’ve got a complete package. Lovely.

Italian Import
Mofo Fave

They drink dolcetto in Piemonte while they’re waiting for the nebbiolo to ripen, or so they say. It’s probably fair to assume that not all of our mofos have vineyards planted to nebbiolo. You can drink it while your Barolo’s cellaring, though. It’ll give you much more time to enjoy it and all! And enjoy it you will. This is a concentrated wine, bursting with rich, juicy fruit. There’s depth to it, and plenty of interest in the glass. Think pinot with more body, or merlot with more cherry (and character). There’s no oak, so it’s all about that fruit flavour and fun drinking. An ideal candidate to take to dinner parties. Being Italian, it’s naturally charming, and it’ll pair with pretty much everything too.
