Why do we love this case?

Red wine and the Mediterranean go hand in hand - from the south of France to the islands of Italy, and let’s not forget Spain. The third hand of the combo is of course food, so we’ve chosen wines that will work well across a variety of Mediterranean cuisines. From tapas and tempranillo to ravioli and rosso - you’re in for a good time!

Each case contains TWO of the following:

Luca Maroni
James Suckling

This is Svetoni’s easygoing, good natured sangio. It has a bright ruby colour, highlights cherry on the fruit spectrum, and supports that with hints of chocolate and silky tannins. Be forewarned that it’s such a smooth drink, you might find the bottle empty before you know what’s happened.

Elegant

This snappy little Rioja is made from 100% tempranillo and shows off the best of the grape. It has a medium body with ripe red fruit and elegant oak character. Three months in American oak have added a touch of grip and vanilla to the abundant plums, cranberries and licorice spice. If you are not familiar with the Rioja region or tempranillo variety - Finca Mónica is a great introduction that is equally delicious with or without food.

Castelmaure Shiraz Blend 2019

Powerful

Corbières is the leading appellation of the Languedoc-Roussillon region in southwest France. The region is famous for powerful red blends and this is a very classy example of the place. The wine has a deep dark colour and dense cassis, forest floor and red currants on the nose. The palate starts very elegantly and then boom - here’s the juicy fruit! It’s a superbly drinkable and beautifully spiced medium-bodied wine.

Spanish Import

Celler Masroig (pronounced ‘ce-yeah ma-rosh’) is a co-op from one of Montsant’s most special spots and is considered among the region’s best producers. The community work together to craft excellent wines across local varieties - in this case, 100% carignan. It’s from steep, south-facing slopes, with hot days and cold nights making the grapes strong. This is a firm and ripe wine with wonderful plum, prune and herbaceousness, strung together by fine acidity, and food-friendly drying tannin. If you ever get to the area, a stop at the cellar door is a must, where their Decanter-awarded wines sit next to their refill-your-own barrels of tinto and blanco.

Bold

Where some of the wines from Toro in Spain’s north-west can be like a charging bull (geddit?!) in structure and style - this sweet little guy is more like Ferdinand. Gentle and soft, with a heart of gold. Made from 100% tinta de Toro (the local name for tempranillo), it’s juicy and ripe with morello cherries, blackberry, spices and abundant, rustic tannins. It’s deliciously fun and doesn’t take life too seriously. If you are a fan of the bold and robust wines that come from Spain, we think you’ll like this trip to Toro.

If you could take the classic image of Tuscany, and ferment it into a bottleful of flavour, this is what you’d get. We’re talking rolling hills, tall cypresses, gravel paths, golden sunlight, Alfa Romeo GTs… you get the picture. There’s dried strawberries, vibrant cherries and juicy plums, with lovely leathery notes and dusty tannin. It’s a perfect pairing with a nice beef ragù, for a deliciously Tuscan tasting.
