Why do we love this case?

The Italian stallions are back for another run and the stable is absolutely stacked. This pack features primitivo, Tuscan reds, nebbiolo, and barbera, some of which are rocking 97, 98 and even 99 points. It’ll give you a taste for all things molto bene and have you backing the Italians all the way through the home straight.

Each case contains one bottle of each of the following:

Corte Medicea 'Eklektòs' Cabernet Sauvignon IGT 2014

Luca Maroni

If Tuscan reds are up your alley, this ‘14 is about to throw down a strike. According to Luca Maroni, it’s a cab sav that belongs with “the elite of the Supertuscans.” With 99 points and a Gold Medal, he goes on to say it “proves what can be achieved by a passionate winemaker when he carefully proceeds with the right know-how.” It’s dark. A deep black colour with blackcurrant, blackberry and elderberry on the nose, there are also notes of espresso, toast and black pepper. There’s an intense fruitiness, super ripe tannins and subtle flavours of vanilla, licorice and cocoa that make this one of the very best cabernets in Italy.

Best Italian Red Under £15, Decanter World Wine Awards 2015

When we got wind that a tiny little Tuscan winery (more of a B&B with some vines out the back and a press in the garage) had stalked off with the Best Italian Wine Award at Decanter 2015, fighting off some incredibly big names in the process, we hotline bling’d that business with a cheerful ‘ciao’. Multiple phone calls, two samples and one fax later (no joke) we had ourselves a tidy parcel of outstanding Tuscan gold. Loaded with dark berries, black fruit, leather and spice, it is superbly elegant and effortlessly complex. It stopped us dead at the tasting bench, like the good stuff always does.

Berliner Wein Trophy 2017

A lovely Italian import comin’ your way mofos. It’s described as being “absolutely in a class of its own,” and “the best Italian red of the year,” by Luca Maroni, who I imagine as the world’s most excitable Italian uncle, but he’s not exaggerating when it comes to this ‘14 Riserva. “A masterpiece of wine growing and making,” it has blackberry figs, fruits and vanilla on the nose with a velvety aftertaste. It is, as ol’ Luca puts it, “stupendously harmonious to the senses,” and is rocking 98 points and a Gold Medal from Berlin to back him up.

“We’ve got here a Barbera, so it’s Barbera D’asti and we’re really excited about bringing this producer into the country as they’ve never been imported to Australia. It has three 95 point reviews and is from the exceptional, exceptional 2016 vintage and the good thing about Barbera is it’s such a versatile style. It has the richness of say a grenache or even a cooler climate shiraz, but it can stretch the breadth of the Australian drinker if we can put it that way.” – John, Mofo Wine Buyer

Andrea Briccarello

This Langhe nebbiolo is the traditional red wine of the Piedmont region. Michael Garner and Andrea Briccarello gave this vino 94 and 93 points apiece thanks to a nose that smacks of red berries, vanilla and cinnamon. It’s smoky, it’s spicy and it’s lengthier than a Melbourne Demons premiership drought with intense, juicy flavours of black fruits. If you’re itchin’ for an Italian vino, scratch yourself the right way with a well-structured, super tasty nebbiolo.

It’s kinda like Cinderella but instead of a glass slipper, we’ve got a glass full of primo Italian juice. We’ve got a saying ‘round these parts: if the shoe fits wear it, and if it’s Tzingarella, drink it. A blend of cab sav, merlot and cab franc, this vino is refreshing, clean and certified organic. Basically a detox. Bright fruits rule the household, and the flavour of black cherries and plums will force even the evilest step-sister to crack a smile after a glass.
