Why do we love this case?

Ah, the age-old debate. Do I go for a gris or a grigio? Centuries of hard study and impossible calculations by boffins all over the world have gotten us no closer to finding an answer. Then, someone at Vinomofo put this case together and we collectively face-palmed at the simplicity of the solution. Here, you get two bottles of six different wines. Each wine is a little different so you’ve got some room for exploration, too. It’s pretty much the best way to get around the grape.

Each case contains TWO of the following:

Bendigo Hills is a project from the esteemed mofo fave, Rock Ferry in Central Otago - this time, working with pinot gris from Marlborough. This wine has been nurtured all the way through from vine to glass, starting with organics in the vineyard, then lots of love in the winery, including nine months on lees in old oak, building texture. Floral aromas abound, along with pear and crisp green apple. The palate is concentrated with pear and apricots, and a touch of ginger spice. After being aged on lees, a subtle nuttiness shines through with lingering mineral notes giving balance.

Mofo Fave

Atlas Wines are one of the rising stars of the Clare Valley, a region that is dominated by big and established wineries. Their wines and packaging are what we'd call 'new wave,' bursting with personality, along with citrus, minerality and texture. This gris is as fresh as they come with nashi pear, grapefruit, lemongrass and pineapple on the palate. It's layered too, but instead of getting deeper it gets even more spritely, more exciting and aromatic. The finish is clean and refreshing, the colour has a tinge of pink.

Another year and we are yet again gobsmacked at the consistent value this gris from Gapsted serves up. They're the kings of King Valley, no doubt about it. Let’s just lay out the virtues; mature vines, fantastic high altitude vineyard site, thoughtful and precise winemaking and a low price tag. There is an intense palate of fresh cut pear, green apple and subtle spice on the finish. It walks the tightrope of providing plenty of flavour while also being dry and crisp, right in the zone for Aussie gris. This has become the go-to-gris for many a mofo over the years, so if this is your first run-in with this runaway success, welcome! If you’re already aware of this gorgeous gris, we know you’ll enjoy the 2021 oh, so much!

No need to cellar this baby at all. Produced in a drink now kind of style by Carillion, it’s bursting with pear, apple and guava. The floral nose invites you in and the vivid fruit-driven palate brings you back for that second (or third) glass. As the days get longer and the sun more intense, this is perfect for a late afternoon drop leading into a relaxed dinner.

Italian Import

Let us take you all the way to Veneto without even having to leave your backyard. This classic Italian grigio delivers in spades, providing subtle floral notes over the nose, firm pear flavours and the palate weight of a gentle hug by the sea. The subtle tartness on the finish wraps it up neatly and demands a light dish of grilled white fish or maybe some green olives. We recommend enjoying a glass or two in your sun drenched garden at around about 4pm. With low sulphites throughout the winemaking process and organically grown fruit and a DOC classification to boot, Savian has been kicking wine goals for decades.
