This particular wine comes from 93-year-old vines and is a great example of old vine Rioja garnacha. There is power, depth and an infinite amount of detail in each glass. The wine will improve with a decant and also improve with a few more years in bottle. Thereās dense layers of dark fruits like plums and figs, sitting beautifully with earthy and herbaceous notes. Thereās enough tannin to let you know youāre drinking Rioja, but in balance with the fruit.

Nostre PaĆÆs is an incredible expression of an organic and biodynamic grenache blend from CostiĆØres de NĆ®mes. Itās about half grenache with the additions of syrah, mourvĆØdre, carignan and cinsault. Domaine Gassierās wine was listed in Jeb Dunnuckās Top 100 reds of the year and for good reason. Itās pure of fruit, complex and smooth as silk. On the nose youāll find blackberries and black cherries along with hints of hot stones. Once on the palate, the expression continues with cacao, dried herbs and graphite. The tannins are fine, making the wine ready to drink following a bit of aeration. Perfect for pairing, this wine will go with an assortment of cheeses, meats and earthy vegetables.

Fresh and lively, yet dark and brooding, this grenache from Clare Valley titan Kilikanoon is everything we need to get us through the night. Dating back to 1997 when this wine first started being made, this old-vine grenache is a sentimental one in the producerās portfolio. Hand-picked and matured for 15 months, the final blend was bottled unfined and unfiltered (vegans rejoice!). With lifted aromas of dark cherries, blood plum, orange zest and tumeric, this wine is better than that dark chocolate bar you have been saving. Textured and savoury, what better than this excellent drop to have with your next dinner.

We have stocked the HereĢncia AlteĢs straight grenache in the past and the response from our mofos was overwhelmingly good. This year, weāve gone with their shiraz/grenache/carignan blend as quite simply, it won on the tasting bench. From their high altitude, organically-farmed vineyards comes a wonderful wine - ripe and deep, with a medium body. There is a combination of fruit and spice, the main highlights are plum and licorice, making for a bright, yet deep wine. My notes said āseriously goodā, which is good news, because itās also seriously affordable.

Vent del Mar is Catalan for sea breeze, which references the Mediterranean wind that cools the grapes in the sea-adjacent region of Terra Alta, and aids in their organic farming. This shiraz/grenache blend is soft and fruity, with a few dark and stoney notes (likely from the shiraz). It's balanced, delicious and really likeable.

Wirra Wirra are an Aussie wine institution with a history dating back 125 years. This blend is a style they have been making for ages and have worked to stay true to form throughout. This is usually a somewhat easy going wine, but the 2017 vintage led to something a bit more serious with increased intensity, concentration and length.
