Fun Time Whites 7.0

We’re here for a FUN TIME and not a long time. Leave your monocle in its case and your notebook in your pocket. These are not wines for haughty analysis and intellectual appraisal. That’s not to say they’re short on quality or complexity – far from it! But to sit there alone while pondering these would be missing the point. They’re built for fun, for fabulous feeds with friends, for big belly-laughs in the best of company. And wherever these wines are, fun times are never far. Cheers to that, mofo!

Orange is the New Wine? Yes indeed! We’re not talking Orange, NSW here - we are talking white wine made like red - skin-contact white wine that results in a textural wine with an amber hue. This wine, made from muscat and sauvignon spent 14 days on skins and an approachable example of the style. The nose is bursting with floral and citrus notes, along with a delightful peachiness. It’s a medium-bodied wine with light grip and a dry, floral finish. The place for this wine is a dinner party, where you get to discover just how well this textural and savoury style can work with food.

I love the Brothers at War - spunky young winemakers and sellers who work with great fruit from around the Barossa and Eden Valleys. They are a producer to watch, as each vintage is better than the last. This is certainly their best chardonnay yet with floral notes of honeysuckle and white jasmin, along with pears. The palate is easy-going, light to medium-bodied with an abundance of fleshy melons and white peach. Seasoned oak and lees stirring provide a lengthy finish

- Margaret River
This pet nat is made from top quality Margaret River chardonnay and is a nice intro to a sometimes challenging wine style. It's light and cloudy, with a bit of funk on the nose, along with vibrant green apple notes. There's a light fizz and the wine is super dry and moreish. Drink this one in the near future to get the most vibrant version of the wine.

- Rias Baixas
Albariño is synonymous with Rias Baixas, in the cold green province of Galicia, still Spain, just above Portugal. It is a wine defined by the Atlantic. The vineyards it grows in are shaped by cooling sea breezes, with enough sun to get the berries perfectly ripe. The flavour, too, speaks of the sea. This is slatey and creamy, like succulent shellfish, with a delightful salinity. A squeeze of citrus keeps everything fresh and lively, while sunny peachy flavours flesh out the palate for a smooth, round finish. It’s beyond perfect with seafood, and a quintessential food wine, that is also dangerously drinkable on it’s own. Delicious!

Bendigo Hills is a project from the esteemed mofo fave, Rock Ferry in Central Otago - this wine coming from up north in the region of Marlborough. They treat the vines with the utmost care, creating wines that are a true expression of the terroir, through organic farming and biodynamic viticulture. This is their pinot blanc and what a delightful surprise it is! Pinot blanc is a delicious white cousin to pinot noir, and the grapes for this wine were hand harvested, so only the creme of the crop made the final press. After being partially barrel fermented, the wine displays a rounded mouthfeel and nuttiness, whilst also retaining purity and freshness of zesty lemon peel and fragrant jasmine. Sit back and relax as you slurp this down in the afternoon sun.

King's Creed is a project across South Australia, in this case from it's fresh and vibrant pinot grigio from the Adelaide Hills. This wine hits all the right notes - juicy grapefruit acidity, pretty floral notes and a light body that is made for food. Don't overthink it, just chill it, crack it and go!
