Castelmaure Rosé 2019

Delicate
French Import
Mofo Fave Producer

There is a lot to like about this rosé - it’s from a quality-focused producer Castelmaure who have impressed many a mofo with their red blend. This rosé is equally as tasty and impressive. It’s made with the same grapes - syrah, grenache and cinsault - which they have picked at the exact right time to retain freshness, and pressed for just long enough to get the perfect colour, aroma and flavour. The nose is full of guava and floral notes, followed by more guava on the palate, fresh acid and a texture that suggests it will sing with food. Deee-lish!

Mofo Fave

This rosé hails not too far away from Provence, France’s spiritual home of rosé. Produced in the département of Bouches du Rhône, this bottle is the business. A gorgeous blend with each variety making its mark. Cinsault provides all the up-front punch of strawberries and cream. Grenache hits you up with a bit of spice. Shiraz provides extra body and there’s a touch of herbal intrigue that keeps you guessing. It’s clean, never cloying, bright, but never brash. And after sharing this with friends, you’ll agree that everything looks better through rosé coloured glasses...

This one practically writes itself. The wine is literally called ‘Lesec on the beach’ rosé. I’m not sure I need to put much more info here. You already know the answer. So grab your towel, your hat, your sunscreen and your sunnies. Let’s take a bottle of this and go you-know-where.

New to the 'Fo

Provence gets all the acclaim when it comes to French rosé, but gamay from Beaujolais feels perfectly suited to the style. Gamay is already light in body, bright in fruit and a little bit savoury. Sounds tailor made to be vinified into rosé. Terra Iconia is fresh to us at the ‘Fo and comes from vines that are up to 40 years old. There’s some extra love that goes into the making of it, starting with a hand harvest followed by bunch selection. The wine is easy on the eyes with a light salmon colour. There’s aromas of strawberries, rasperries and citrus in the glass, and these follow through to a well-balanced palate that finishes dry and savoury. Gamay-zing!

Olivier & Lafont Rosé 2019
Strawberry
Musk
Minerally
Light-bodied
Bright
Concentrated

Oliver & Lafont sound like a French Davis Cup team serving it up on centre court at Roland Garros. Swap the serve-volleys and overhead smashes with meticulous fruit selection and attention to detail in the winery, and you have a winning doubles team. This is the perfect refreshing beverage after a marathon three-setter. There’s wonderful line and length with citrus acidity supporting pretty pink flavours of strawberries, Christmas cherries and Pink Lady apples. It’s fresh, crunchy and tart, with a nice textural line of minerality and spice so typical of Rhône’s grenache based rosés. “Game, set and match: Olivier & Lafont.”
