La Borie Rosé 2020

Strawberry
Musk
Light-bodied

Delicate

Château La Borie was built in the 17th century. Situated ten kilometres from the left bank of the Rhône river, the winery produces four wines from its 75 hectares of vines. La Borie’s rosé, composed of mostly grenache with a touch of syrah, comes from a small 3 hectare plot of vines over clay, marl and stone. Fermentation in cement vats keeps the fruit purity (think strawberries) in the foreground, making for a bright, yet slightly musky wine with light colour, a delicate nose and a touch of spice on the finish.

If you’re into Beauj and scratch that itch via Vinomofo, then you’re already quite familiar with Domaine Anita. Anita Kuhnel is one of the region’s most talented and exciting winemakers. And alongside the surprisingly powerful reds she makes, Anita also crafts some incredible rosé from gamay. 45 year old vines rooted in deep clay soils provide the fruit for this wine, one that is bright in appearance as well as on the palate. Strawberries and raspberries abound, leading to a crisp and refreshing finish. Knowing what we know about Domaine Anita, it’s no surprise this rosé is a cut above the rest.

Louison Rosé 2020
Light-bodied
Bright
Elegant

This rosé hails not too far away from Provence, France’s spiritual home of rosé. Produced in the département of Bouches du Rhône, this bottle is the business. A gorgeous blend with each variety making its mark. Cinsault provides all the up-front punch of strawberries and cream. Grenache hits you up with a bit of spice. Shiraz provides extra body and there’s a touch of herbal intrigue that keeps you guessing. It’s clean, never cloying, bright, but never brash. And after sharing this with friends, you’ll agree that everything looks better through rosé coloured glasses...

Maison Ventenac Diane Rosé 2020

Strawberry
Light-bodied

Delicate

Maison Ventenac faces due south with a view to the Pyrenees Mountains that divide France from Spain. Stéphanie and Olivier look after the maison, focussing on approachable wines that speak of the vineyards. Their rosé, named Diane after their niece born in 2013 (the same year this blend was created) is light on its feet, pale in colour and sitting on the dry, savoury side of the pink spectrum. The fruit is leaning towards strawberries and there’s hints of spice and musk adding complexity. The French sure know how to make great rosé and Diane is a shining example.
