Why do we love this case?

Claims, receipts, levies...it’s all rather taxing, isn’t it? That’s the point, I suppose, but that doesn’t mean you can’t celebrate the end of the financial year in style. We’ve put together a case of financial year favourites that won’t send you bust, twelve tasty little treats for you to enjoy once you get that return in. Or, depending on your mathematical ability, while you lodge – just make sure you write off deductions, not yourself.

Each case contains ONE of each of the following:

Fresh to the Fo

Kickass Kili have done it again. Their inimitable Golden Hillside shiraz is a firm ‘fo fave, and consistently one of the fastest selling wines we bring in. Not surprising, really. Rambunctious cherries and burstingly-juicy berries are just contained by a toasty coating of fabulous French oak. No rush to drink this beauty, it’ll keep the rest of your cellar very good company for a decade, easy.

Spanish Import

Next door to La Rioja, in the cool north of Spain lies the region of Navarra. Where tempranillo shines in Rioja, garnacha (or grenache) is the star of Navarra. Young vines go into rosé and once the vines have matured, they make deep, layered, velvety reds. The Cabrito Oscuro comes for a collection of old sites, high on mountains, where a long season allows the grapes to gain flavour and complexity, while retaining freshness. Ripe plums and blackberries beam from the glass, followed by aniseed spice and a touch of toasty oak. This is full-bodied, full-flavour and very easy to like.

We're going to let wine critic Sam Kim do the work here: "A delectably expressed shiraz; the perfumed bouquet shows dark plum, sweet cherry, subtle spice and floral aromas with hints of cocoa and cedar. It's wonderfully weighted and rounded on the palate, delivering fabulous fruit purity together with silky texture and rounded tannins. Flavoursome and instantly appealing. At its best: now to 2034."

We don't often see gris from Eden Valley - but this wine by CW has us thinking we should be seeking it out! The wine is perfumed, lifted and wonderfully fruity. A cool, citric acidity drives the experience with style and grace. The finish is long and lingering.

When one of our favourite winemakers in the King Valley asks us to come around and taste a few bottles, we come running. John Stokes from Wood Park is a gun with the usual suspects from the region - sangiovese, pinot grigio and, of course, prosecco - but also one of the few that makes shiraz and cabernet fit to stand alongside some of that nation’s best. This classic Aussie blend is medium-bodied, bright, ripe with plum and cassis, and finishes with fine, fine tannins.

Clare cabernet manages a magic balancing act. It nails the robust, classic style we all love, while still showing great freshness and elegance. This one from Kirrihill starts with an opening salvo of dense, dark fruit. But look just beneath the surface to find surprisingly delicate nuance and subtle complexity in the form of black cherry, blackberry, roasted coffee and hazelnut. This’ll be a formidable option to cellar, though it’s a cracker now if you give it a moment to open up. The tannins aren’t too aggressive either, giving shape without proving scary.

Tomich are a mofo fave - their pinots and chardonnays both rock, and their aromatic whites are go-to summer wines for us. This is perfect Hills chardonnay with a touch of age - fruit-rich flavour and lively acidity. White nectarines and green apples abound, driven by acid and crunchy texture. Clean and crisp, it’s nevertheless loaded with satisfying flavour.

Jeanneret have made a superb young riesling, from a couple of lofty vineyards in Clare. Not a steely citrus taste bud assault, more approachable and friendly. Watch out for grapefruit pith, meyer lemon flesh and white peach, with fresh chopped herbs. It’s fine and clean, with just enough sweetness to do its job with style.

New to the 'Fo

Konrad sourced their Hole in the Water pinot noir from the Wairau Valley of Marlborough, fermented the grapes with indigenous yeast and rested the wine in French oak for about 9 months. It has Marlborough’s typical cherry and strawberry pinot profile with a little gentle spice and oak behind it to complete the wine. So reward yourself for a day of hard work, you’ve earned it.

The P-series wines from Patrick of Coonawarra show off the young, light and fun side of the producer who makes epic cabernet. We’re not sure which exact varieties went into this rosé, but we are sure about how much we like it. It's light, pretty, crisp and oh, so delicious. There’s floral notes on the nose, strawberries on the palate and a just-cut watermelon freshness that makes you come back to the glass again and again.
