Deus Ex Liquida Grenache Shiraz 2014
This season, two great houses, two legends of Vitis vinifera have each given of themselves a child. Deus Ex Liquida Grenache Shiraz - nourished on blocks of iron, sandstone and clay, the essence of their blood and pride of the Vale. Grenache triumphs. Sourced from gnarly bush vines and delivering vibrant raspberry, cardamom spice and perfumed allure. Shiraz is the workhorse, the backbone, placing grenache on a rail and taking it for a ride. Savoury and spicy first, black cherry swirls around a twist of orange rind. Baci chocolate, subtle cedar and saline tannins are the memorable encore.
Art of War Barossa Valley Shiraz 2013
Drawing from old vines, there is intensity and complexity without pretensions of winemaking artefact. Just as smooth and bold as the 2012, but the fruit comes to the fore, plummy and rich dark chocolate and blackberry, blueberry and black pepper, cascading over the top of the lovely, supple strength of fine oak and balanced, quiet power.
Old Money Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon 2013
This bespoke Cabernet features fruit foraged from the Brand family’s Estate vineyards of Coonawarra. Traditional, artisan winemaking and inner-city back alley blend testing combine to showcase ripe, vibrant mulberry and blueberry fruit from a glorious 2013 vintage.
Duck Sauce Yarra Valley Pinot Noir 2014
We look for certain things in our Pinot Noir: an undercurrent of earthy depth, buckets of juicy red berries, a pinch of pepper, and a little hint of gamey funk to spice things up. This is what we bring you, as true to form as we could muster. Steve Webber is a veritable master of all things Pinot, and has a great deal of experience in Burgundy and beyond, and he brings this knowledge to all his Pinot Noir with aplomb.
The Orgy McLaren Vale Grenache Shiraz Mourvedre 2014
Loaded with savoury earthiness, earl grey tea and spicy red and black fruits. We asked Malcolm what he thought of his handiwork: “We reckon we’ve harmoniously integrated the varieties, so it’s ready for youthful drinking very soon after bottling”... and that’s exactly what we’ve been doing.
Gusto Mama 2014
Her secret is out, and we’ve bottled it! Gusto is a slurpy sangiovese that balances blackberry jam, mulberry and sour red cherry with more earthy, savoury notes. Think spice, leather and tobacco and you’re on the right track. This release has some charry, meaty notes on the finish too - it’s the definition of drinkability.
