Why do we love this case?

We all know how hot chardonnay is right now. From the modern and zippy to the all-out nostalgic butterball, chardy can do it all. But no matter what style you prefer, good chardonnay always has that air of something special about it. We’ve got a range of regions, styles and ages covered. Happy exploring!

Each case contains TWO bottles of each:

Massena Colour Palette Chardonnay 2017
Citrus
Minerally
Orange Peel
Medium-bodied
Bright
Concentrated

Massena is without a doubt one of the most exciting wineries in South Australia. Based out of Barossa, their focus on making truly good wine knows no boundaries. They go where the fruit speaks to its fullest, meaning this chardy comes from cooler sites down the road in Adelaide Hills. You might reach for this one when you’re after something a little fresher, with white blossom and citrus characters in good supply. That salmon you were thinking about making for dinner would go down much better with a glass of this chardy in hand. In fact, there’s few occasions where we wouldn’t want to have a glass in our reach.

Sometimes, it can be tough to know where to sit with chardonnay- go big and buttery, or lean and crispy? Well mofo, what if we told you that you can have both in this delightfully balanced Adelaide Hills wine from First Drop? Enhanced by the region’s cool climate, crunchy apple and pears sit proudly on the forefront of the palate, but it certainly doesn’t stop there. Seeing a touch of French oak (25%) you’ll still get rounded vanilla and melon notes, as well as cashew, almond and biscuit-y goodness from extended time on lees. Come sit on the fence with us, the view’s pretty good from here.

Mofo Fave

Established in 2007, think of Atlas as the cool new kids on the block. From the artsy, minimalistic exterior of their wines to the delicious, handmade, minimal-intervention juice inside, Atlas are just plain stylish. Winemaker Adam Barton crafts small-batch wines using only the most premium quality grapes, with fruit for this particular Chardonnay sourced from the fantastic Woodside vineyard in Adelaide Hills. Balanced, bright and creamy, this lovely drop is a tropical fruit bowl packed to the rim with melon, mango, peach and grapefruit. There’s a pillowy softness to the palate and a lively acid line which drives its long finish.

5 Stars Wine Orbit

Hawke’s Bay is known for bigger, richer chardy. Using American oak and malolactic fermentation also makes for bigger, richer chardy. So it is absolutely no surprise that if you put Hawkes Bay chardy into American oak to go through malolactic fermentation, you are going to end up with an immensely big and rich chardy. And that’s just what the winemaker at Coopers Creek did. We’re talking vanilla, cream, lemon, hazelnut and grapefruit with a bit of cedary oak in the background. If you love powerful, mouth-filling and smooth chardonnay, then this one’s for you.

New to the 'Fo

Here’s Tabalí chardonnay from their Gran Reserva Pedrogoso range, sourced from a small vineyard in the Maipo Valley. Here you can witness vines rooted in alluvial limestone-heavy soil and surrounded by cacti. It’s quite a sight to see. Fruit is hand-harvested and aged in stainless steel to preserve freshness and purity. There’s an intense mineral component on the nose, citrus and pineapple drive the palate and you’ll find just a touch of salinity on the finish due to the Atlantic’s influence.

James Halliday
New to the 'Fo

Creamy and elegant, that’s the calling card with this Tallarook chardy. Wild yeast and lees stirring go into it, creating depth, complexity and indefinable oomph. We’re hopping into a time travelling machine so to speak, back to the days of those rich, toasty, buttery chardonnays. So don’t expect the lean and laser-sharp, but rather a mouth-filling, cashew-invoking, 80’s ‘dress up party’ inspiring glass of wine. If that’s your bag, then you’re in the right place.
