It’s arguably France’s most famous region and home of the world’s most expensive wine. You’d be forgiven for getting lost in the pomp and ceremony of the place, but we’re keeping it real at the ‘Fo. So we’ve skipped between the left and right bank, scoured the region’s grandiose château and sipped some supreme drops to bring you a line up of wicked wines that punch above their weight in quality and value. Welcome to our best of Bordeaux in a box.
Each case contains TWO of each of the following:

Absolutely insane value for a Médoc. Despite the left-bank provenance, this is actually slightly more merlot (at 50%) than cab sav (at 45%), with a dash of petit verdot making up the difference. It’s got all the signature Bordeaux intensity. The palate is awash with deep, dark, spicy berries and a tasteful touch of oak. The rich flavour is balanced by shapely tannins and there’s plenty of room for cellaring if you’re keen to see what it’ll look like in time.

Château Beauvillage makes one wine and one wine only. They’ve been at it this way since 1925. Good thing they are so skilled at it. Year after year, it delivers its distinctive character. The winemaker adapts the fermentation process to the specific vintage conditions, but always keeping the blend the same - 55% merlot and 45% cabernet sauvignon. The 2018 edition saw 12 months in toasted French oak before bottling. It’s wonderfully complex and aromatic with ripe fruit notes of cherry and plum with hints of cedar, mocha and smoke behind the scenes. The tannins are silky and lead to a lingering finish. This is a wine of richness and structure, something both hedonistic and serious at the same time.

Cap Royal Bordeaux Supérieur is a ‘sum of its parts’ sort of wine. Jean-René Matignon, winemaker at the renowned Chateau Pichon Baron, is in charge of the wine each vintage and uses his extensive connections in Bordeaux to source grapes from vineyards he sees fit for the year’s blend. This allows him to select the best fruit to achieve his vinous goal without being limited to one plot of land. The 2018 vintage is 75% merlot and 25% cabernet sauvignon. Intensely coloured with a nose of blackberry, blueberry and spice, the wine expresses more dark fruits, vanilla and toasted oak on the palate. It’s powerful and rich, yet refreshing.
