Why do we love this case?

Psst, you there! Yeah you! Stop looking around, you’re acting suspicious. You’re here for the Black Market wines, aren’t you? Yeah, that’s this box here. Don’t worry they’re all 100% legit, we’re just doing our winemaker mates a favour by not shouting their names from the rooftops. We don’t want to upset anyone, just cause we give you the best prices.

Each case contains TWO bottles of:

Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

Wrattonbully, SA

94pts Sam Kim | 5 red star Halliday Rated Winery | Killer Vintage

Ringing the absolute best out of Wrattonbully, this cabernet is the bees’ knees when it comes to bang for your buck.  Expressive and concentrated with plenty of cassis and blackcurrant - there’s a lovely touch of leafiness sitting with background cedary oak and spice.

There’s only one thing on the menu - lamb. Whether it’s Greek gyros style, a middle eastern spiced backstrap or a good old fashioned Aussie leg roast, lamb is the key. Baa-ring it on!

Tempranillo 2019

Gapsted, Victoria

Nods of approval and even the odd knowing smile accompanied wine dealer Mark’s proclamation of this drop as, “Utterly smashable” at the tasting bench this morning. We taste a lot of wines here at the ‘fo. Believe it or not, but you can even get tired of tasting vino, day in day out. You also know when you find a wine so utterly juicy, so ridiculously quaffable, that you’d never tire of it in a month of Sundays. This is one of those. Cherry, plum jam, hints of blueberries, a zippy acidity and soft, round mouthfeel is all you need for a delicious drinking, night in night out. Plus, it won’t cost an arm and a leg, either. Not even close. Can’t say fairer than that!

Shiraz 2015

Padthaway, SA

96pts Limestone Coast Wine Show | Gold Medal Limestone Coast Wine Show

This shiraz is an absolute POWERHOUSE! A powerhouse of bold shiraz flavour and a wine that our mofos just can’t get enough of, from a producer who has become a solid favourite in the last year or so. The wine is deep and rich on the nose, with plum and a touch of eucalypt. We suggest decanting to get most of these complex aromas. On the palate, it’s full-bodied with drive and all the berries and plums you could want. The wine has seen a bit of new oak, both French and American and shows vanilla and spice. Now five-years-old, the fruit and oak are well integrated and the tannins are fine and abundant.

Sauvignon Blanc 2019

Nelson, NZ

93pts Sam Kim, Wine Orbit | Gold Medal Sam Kim

This is classic sauvignon blanc from one of Nelson’s best producers. Although not in the limelight like it’s neighbour Marlborough, Nelson is on the up and getting a great reputation for classy sauvignon blanc. This wine has bright aromas of gooseberry and grapefruit and the palate has all the tropical fruit you’d expect of the style, with a long, mineral finish. Fresh, fun and delicious!

Chardonnay 2017

Yarra Valley, Victoria

Boutique Producer, Mofo Fave

Firecracker Yarra fruit yields surprising complexity, with green apple, pithy grapefruit and a juicy slice of white peach making up the moreish fruit profile. Cool-climate-derived acidity provides freshness and a clean, crisp finish.

Riesling 2019

Clare Valley, SA

94pts Sam Kim | 5 Black Star Halliday Rated Producer

Simple winemaking is usually the best plan when it comes to Clare Valley riesling. You take high quality fruit, press it gently, ferment at a cool temperature and then let it rest. If you want to work in a bit of texture, as is the case with this one here, simply leave the wine on its lees for a couple of months. That’s it...that’s all there is to do. If you try to do anything more clever than that, it ends up being clunky. This riesling is mouthwateringly crisp with flavours of lime, elderflower, grapefruit and quince. Lay it down for a few more years and you’ll start to see that texture become more prominent. It doesn’t need to be any more complicated than that.

YOU’D PAY $22 full price.

What is a Black Market deal?

Black Market deals are only made possible if we don’t reveal the maker’s brand on site. The wines are the genuine article – absolutely no cleanskins or fake brands, just dangerously good value. You won’t find out what it is until it hits your doorstep, but you won’t regret it. Just keep it on the down low.
